So, my firefox has been going very slow recently, and I don't know why. I'm not sure it it's just our internet or not, cause the other computers in our house go just fine.
I've been looking for tips to speed up firefox, and found this thing about pipelining. HOwever, I've heard that it could be bad for some reason (bandwidth or something like that), but I really don't know what it means...
Could somebody explain if this is bad to do? Or if I should do it?
Quote:1. Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit enter. Scroll down and look for the following entries:
2. Alter the entries as follows:
Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"
set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.
3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.
Try this and you can see the difference ………..
EDIT: I am seeing this guide everynow.. and everybody seems to love it.. but I'll wait for your opinions
Clear up your cache and that might help firefox start/work faster.
Else it may not be an issue with Firefox, might be something to do with the network/OS on your machine.
Pipeline is a feature which is useful for read-only websites.. So news sites, sites with lots of images on the page, will work really well with this feature enabled in the browser.
Of course the server must also support this, but most of the servers do...
This feature does not work well with POST requests, hence web-mail, banking sites and online store sites may have issues (your mileage may vary). The browser currently only supports a universal on/off switch, so if it's on it will use it for all sites.
In short, if you are doing some casual browsing, enable this and there might be some benefits.
