When I set about making an Independent Miner I started with /restart Beginner and went on from there....this set him up with the basics...his ID, a basic ship and gear etc etc....I couldn't find any more mention of "restart Miner" which used to set you up with a Surveyor etc....perhaps I should have used some variation of this command instead? If so I apologise....I kind of had the notion that I should be full Red with various mining companies....The info on the ID that I can find sort of suggests that but I seem to be merely unfriendly with them....Should I address this by attacking various NPCs as I encounter them? I reckon I should be outright enemies with the likes of BMM for example....but it seems like maybe the IMG should be merely neutral and allow me to dock...maybe a bit unfriendly and suspicious of me as a lone wolf operator and what have you....Info about the ID states that if used I will find that I can't dock at the bases of "most" mining Corporations...It comes as a kind of a warning, in fact.... I kind of expected that the rep fixing aspect of the thing would do that...but I seem to be merely unfriendly tending towards red with most...
So, should I grind away at NPCs to achieve this... or is there some rep reset I can use without actually restarting and losing my ship and funds etc? Am I right then, that I should be outright Red with the Big guys and Neutral perhaps with the IMG....
Specifically in House Kusari....what about Samura Industries? Not specifically a "mining" company but, you know....then again it'd be advantageous to be Neutral with them at least. ...Certainly I think I should be hostile to the GMG? Then there's a certain Base in Tokyo...Its Infocard seems to suggest that its a totally commercial vesion of a Freeport, like a warren of warehouses and offices where a "grey" Market could be reasonably supposed to exist.....
In the case of various factions...both NPC and Player there's a very handy rep "spectrum" running from red to full green available but I cant seem to find such a thing in this case....it seems like it'd be a very interesting juggling experience to do this right...balancing off being enemies with both the Mining giants and most of the Pirates (but maybe not the Junkers?)...while staying Neutral with the lawfuls...and I want to do it correctly.....
Anything like such a rep "spectrum" exist in this case? I'd really appreciate any and all imput on this....for me, the fun would be getting it right and making it work...Im not looking for easy work arounds or "excuses" to land and so on....You see, I was actually a bit disappointed that I'm not set full hostile to various outfits just by using the ID, for example.
edit
Yeah, I guess this would include IMG bases...".May not dock upon non-generic mining ID bases"
This is a bit of a tricky one I'm finding....dealing with aggressive NPC unlawfuls is slowly greening me up with ...well most everyone....so much so that while poaching in a field...I noticed a Player IMG vessel....I guess that I should be outright enemies with some Miner groups but I'm unsure about the IMG and GMG for example ( I think the IMG might accept lone operators...) I was neutral with him...I wasn't sure what way to react...there might have been some fun interactions possible....(as in I was poaching but then, basically so was he....) Should I just start mowing down Mining Corporations NPCs until I'm red with them?
Maybe I should just approach it like a see-saw? Killing Mining Corporation NPCs (the Good Guys) balances killing Pirate NPCs (the Bad Guys), thus keeping me neutral with various Navies and Police Forces (the Dangerous Guys)?
I guess that should leave me Red with the Pirates AND the Miners without becoming too pally with the cops etc.....hmmmm....
I'm curious, did you pick the generic miner ID strictly for the RP interactions with the other corporations, or are you actually planning on making money with this character?
If it's the former, then yeah, the best way to get your "rivals" into the red on the rep sheet is just to outright attack them whenever you get the chance. Check the rep sheet to see who their allies and enemies are, and adjust your hostilities accordingly.
If it's the latter however, you're in for a tough time. While the corporate mining ID's provide a bonus to the drop rate for their particular ore, the generic ID ONLY gives a bonus for helium. Mining is kinda slow as it is with everything set up to give the bonus. Without it..., well, I hope you REALLY like shooting rocks, because you'll be doing it for hours just to get one load.
Hours of rock shooting? No, not at all I find, I have a ship with just 2 aligned mining turrets on it and the hold fills in maybe 5/7 mins...but anyhow...no I don't see this character as a big money maker...I want him purely as a wanderer...just about getting by...I genuinely am more interested in his interactions with the big corporations and so on....in that regard, the reps balances, the run or fight decisions, the being run off by the big guys ,"worrying" about where to dock and resupply.....all that stuff is why I made him....his troubles are my fun....so to speak....
Oh...I think that you may be mistaken about the bonus for that ID, by the way...it is my understanding that it gives a smaller bonus than a Corporate ID does, true, but for every ore type.
Ok, maybe hours is a bit of an exaggeration, but it certainly feels that way when your cargo hold is 2800 instead of 275
I figured it was an RP thing though, so about the only way (that I know of) to get your rep set the way you want it, is to shoot'em when ya see'em. Just keep a close eye on every factions attitude toward you. It's really easy to screw up and have the wrong people unhappy with you.
And I may be wrong about the Miner ID now, but when I tried it when I first started 9 months ago, I was not impressed. It wasn't long before I deleted the poor guy and did an IMG restart. But I was after creds..., so yeah.
Anyway, good luck on getting it set the way you're looking for.
