Vista is evil for the first time user....
1. Turn off User Account Management. It'll interupt every action you do.
2. Anti-Virus software and Vista is an issue. There are only a few out there that is compatible Norton isn't one of them. So get rid of the AV software and get Avanti, I believe.
3. Video drivers may be too advanced for the FL game, switch to a less modern driver.
4. Turn off the Gadgets on the right hand side. Take care of it's little Icon in systray by clock so it doesn't keep coming back.
5. In fact remove any and all unecessary operations you find, Vista is memory intensive but when the bells and whistles are gone It'll use less than 40% of a GB.
6. Backup, backup, backup. (including your FAM ids)
Anyone else care to add?

Do you work for Microsoft or something? Windows 7 isn't scheduled to be released for a while. It's still a beta.
At least now I know FL will run on it though. I'm using XP and Norton and it's just fine. Graphics card sucks though.

Thats odd, I have two computers (my personal one is XP, the family one is a vista) I installed FL, FLMM and disco without any problems on my vista and it works like a charm.
All I had to do was set the firewall thingy to ignore freelancer.
On another note, If you've got the choice. I'd sudjest you stick with Windows XP. Because the security and other such things are so uptight and I don't really find it too great for playing Video Games online or even at all.
Reason: It is most hard to get it to run with any games that require admin rights to run online game play.
Such as Freelancer, Battlefield 1942 - 2142, Call of Duty 1-5, and many other games that I could as well place on the list.
So here I am, with the new computer... WIll be tryiing that instalation soon... All looks fine so far, just the fact Vista asks for everything three times makes me crazy a little.
"Do you want to open X?" -Ok
"Are you sure you want to instal X?" -Yes
"X is currently installing, are you sure about that?" -Yes
"Are you sure you want to launch X?"-F*ck off you- !
