I am trying to create some systems and hit an annoying roadblock. There are a couple tutorials i am trying to follow. I am at the point where i need to start editting .ini and .dlls files. The tutorial tells me to download an empty.dll and rename it to my mod.dll. It also tells me to copy the freelancer.ini to the EXE folder and then bini it, add the line DLL = my mod.dll.
After i do all this i go into the editor and my system has been renamed to Xwing. My base has been renamed to starfire.
I openned the freelancerempty.dll and along with the gibberish i cannot make out i do see Xwing and Starfire in there.
So i guess the ultimate question is does anyone know of a better empty.dll or how to not have the stuff in my system renamed?
Well I never had to download a .dll, though when I make systems from either the discovery version or vanilla FL, I use Freelancer Explorer for system editing.
Using them I just create a system and save and it creates a new .dll file for me. Never ran into problems with it before. So if your not using that right now for your modding I HIGHLY recommend it.

Hey cool thanks. The tutorial tells me to not use the one FLexplorer creates. It tells me to use a different one. I will try using the created one. Thanks a million.
No problem, and I'm presuming your talking about Dab's system editing tutorial. Read that sorta go confused but it was mainly for system editing through scripting I think its called for FL modding.
But FLE will make things much more easier to understand, just a side note, right clicking in FLE will bring up more options than left click. If you need help on how to use it just let me know through here.

Be wary of FLE, it creates a great many errors in the systems it produces. Your best best is likely to use it to create a base or template and then from there correct any errors by hand.
Indeed I have had some error's from it, but just revising the system a tad should help it. Though some stuff may need to be dealt with inside the files. Though I never had to do that. But nonetheless most of the time you should be able to make a full system using everything given without problems unless you have intersecting objects that create a huge mess or what not.

From what I've read, he isn't using my tutorial, though maybe he is using Dark Dragon's FLE tutorial. First; I've found that using the .dll FLE gives you works fine for this, unless your making an entire mod. If your planning on submitting to Igiss, empty.dll is not needed. Otherwise, you can use it, but its not required.
Now, about your .dll problem.. Sounds like you have a Star Wars mod in your mod folder and possibly activated.. You need to make sure there are NO mods activated when you copy the Freelancer.ini to your mod. Whatever star wars mod you have, it is the source of your 'Xwing' and 'Starfire' problems, for neither of those is used in Vanilla FL. Now check my tutorial. You'll find a link to an Empty.dll you can download at the start of Section 2. Use that and it should fix your problem.
Yeah thanks everyone. I am using the 3 tutorials from Lancers reactor as well as your tutorial you posted dab, plus all his links. It keeps happening. Thanks for that posted freelancerempty.dll. That is the one i am trying to use.
The methiod I am trying is to start with only Discovery active. Then create a new mod and do all the editting in the new mod. When i try to edit the 4.85 mod directly, after i create a system through FLE, in game the station has no name and my jumpholes have numbers like 1423 rather than Omicron Lamda.
All i can think is to go through the lancers and dabs tutorials again from scratch and hope i can figure out how editting inis works by studying the new ones that are made after each step. I am betting i can fix all my wierd FLE bugs through the inis.
I have both bini.exe and BiniQDU.exe. I cannot however find any literature on either of them. To my basic knowledge, both of these put the inis in a format that you can now edit and work with. So do you have to bini all inis when editting them? Anyone know of any literature or can give me a brief explanation on their use?
My latest problem. Getting fled-ID's to list all the .dlls in the pulldown menu. My tutorial makes it look easy and i think i figured it out in the passed. Just cannot seem to get it to work this time. I moved all the necessary dll files from the freelancer exe folder to the new mod exe folder. I still cannot get them to show up on the list.
Thanks in advance for all your help, i realy do appreciate it.
Holy crap. I just found some great, you are a newbie to this stuff, here is how it works sight. Check it out. Boring as hell to watch but a great start.
