Wolfpack commented on the server issue in the other thread.
The problem is not bandwidth related and also it seems it's not (only) hardware too.
There are some comments about the large train. People who have bought one before the 4.80 final version and enter the server with it are presumed to be causing the lag.
(Perhaps there are some other issues like this "old-ship-bug", since probably alot of people still use ships bought from several releases ago... )
Anyway, mind you that hosting is costly... and also that talking about this kind of matter (generally) pisses alot of people...
I have two antique Eagles. :P I bought them in 4.76 and then they were edited in 4.77, but Igiss said keeping them wouldn't mess up anything.. My eagles are worth absolutely nothing. Sell for $0. So I can fly aound under level 30 in an eagle. :P
If these things persist, we'll have to wipe everyone without compensation some day. I hate vipes, but certain situation might arise when this will be required.
Most old ships shouldn't cause severe errors, but I still advise to re-buy them all.
A player wipe might not be such a bad idea actually.. The people who have been here for awhile have everything. So a wipe could even it out for everyone. Plus it would help everyone ease into the new ID rules and the other stuff.
Like I've said before in previous threads, even if the server messages were brilliant orange and scrolled across one letter at a time people would still not see it.
As for a wipe, if thats what you want to do... it's your mod.
Some people might be annoyed/upset that all the stuff they worked hard to get will be lost, including characters they spent millions getting just right for them.
I agree with Virus, I mean, come on, 600+ mil cash, 3 Battleships and so on... I've worked too hard, and I wasn't doing the NB-Yanagi. and I'm not the only one. at least my cash as compensation would be in order...
If the stars should appear one night in a thousand years, how would men believe and adore and preserve for many generations the remembrance of the city of God? - from 'Nightfall' by I. Asimov The Outcasts consider Siniestre Nube a sacred place for several reasons. Early explorers discovered a jumphole within the depths of the cloud that leads to a strange world of ringed stars and strange craft. All ships in the burrial ground are placed facing that hole to honor the Alien Spirits. - An Outcast rumor
Oh God I hate to think how much ... Not so much the bil or two ... Just the hours spent
getting the characters to where they are. Never done the NB-Yanagi in my life.
Equivalent cash to replace every char at its level with the same ship would be the fairest
way, but the work involved, I imagine, would be enormous.
If we don't actually have to do this, is there any point in considering it.
