Completed in early 823 A.S., Fort Murray is the brain child of current Liberty Navy Captain Alexander Kingston. With the original intent to be a safe haven for his home of Chesterfield, the base has quickly expanded to encompass a large portion of the Carmallan Plateau on the southern hemisphere of Planet Denver. The fort has seen, even in its relative isolation, a fair amount of action, from numerous attempts at break ins to the assault by a small contingent of Nomads. Even in the face of these events, the installation continues to operate at peak efficiency, owing to the character and determination of those in charge.
A multi-level fort by design, Murray is constructed with integrity in mind, taking inspiration from the Valhalla-1 site on Planet Manhattan. Consisting of 17 levels in total, though only 11 publicly, and sprawling out in every direction, the Fort itself it as much a bustling town as Chesterfield is around it. Containing enough manpower to field a small invasion force, the base operates as a secure holding in the event Denver were ever sieged or invaded, though this force would likely need to keep close to the Fort. Fort Murray's structure also contains heavy shock absorbers in the event of bombardment, and while the surface structure is not designed to withstand heavy aerial fire for long sustained durations, it will take most of the damage with it, designed to flatten out into a large sheet of shock resistant plating.
All in all, Fort Murray is a true bastion of safety, secured from the terrors from above and continuously improving its defenses.
Fort Murray's surface level consists of the above-ground complex comprised of a large walled off entry section and numerous buildings for ease of access to the rest f the underground sections of the base, as well as a prototype shield generator enveloping the complex with a large impenetrable barrier capable of sustaining very heavy blasts from orbit. Only one way into the compound is available, and even then it is heavily guarded.
Below the surface, the hangar takes up the first two subterranean levels of Fort Murray. With a landing space larger than that of an Atlantis-class Assault Carrier, the fighter bays contain docking ports for over 200 individual military grade fighter craft. With efficiency in mind, as well as power draw, each of the four main hangar wings is equipped with a patented LJ-4590 'Lifter' Craft Lift Assister, a immense tractor beam capable of it ships to the hangar door, allowing it a quick and powerless guide to the door and conserving energy and fuel.
Level Three contains most of the command stations for hangar-borne fighter craft, as well as the traffic control center for inbound freighters delivering goods and supplies to the Fort. This is not to say that the quarters on levels 4-7 aren't cozy. Most if not all of them are higher class than most civilian apartment complexes, and while they are well compacted, they do present an efficient and homely vibe to the majority of the personnel living inside the Fort. In addition to the personnel quarters, levels 5 and 6 especially (though there are certain outcroppings on the two adjacent levels) contain fully functional and well stocked stores and relaxation areas for the personnel and their families to enjoy during the off time on the base.
The personnel levels are usually the furthest down most class 1 authorization individuals can make it without receiving class 2 stamps. Due to the nature of the base, as well as what goes on below, the word of the main command staff is usually required for anyone to be allowed access further down. However, any individual with class 3 authorization can temporarily authorize anyone to proceed down towards the remaining 3 publicly known levels.
Representing the final three publicly known levels, research and development is exactly as it sounds. Three levels comprised of two for focus and one for cooperation. All of Fort Murray's technological expertise takes place here, as well as all engineering and construction endeavors. On level 8, Fort Murray's research department works nearly round the clock to update and standardize the most advanced gear possible for Murray's soldiers, as well as the Liberty marines as a whole. New generations of Gauss technology capable of firing slugs at a percent the speed of light, armor capable of withstanding entire warship rounds, duraflex synthetic weave for soldiers on the ground, and high speed gamma slugs calibrated for assault against heavily armed installations. The wonders invented and tested on this level are truly breathtaking.
Below that, Level 10 stands as the main engineering section of the base. Most of the Fort's underground warship repair facilities are located here, and while it may not be feasible to repair an entire battleship or cruiser at this depth, gunships and the like are more than possible. With large elevators and shafts leading down to the facilities, each reinforced by both the earth above and the supports alongside the superstructure, each vessel that is pulled down to be worked on is ensured to be able to make it out as efficiently as it went in. Warship repair and construction is also not what solely happens here. Construction of drones for scouting, ammunition and the like are also created here, but on a far less impressive scale than warship repair and production.
The fabrication area on Level 9 is the mixture of both sections. This is where the main bulk of the construction prowess of Fort Murray resides and where all of the main item manufacturing takes place. Anything they dream up in the research labs, they build it here. Drones and the like populate the level almost as much as people do, the minds of the installation not wavering a single second to relinquish their hold on the technology they produce. Any weapons created here for use by soldiers on the base are sent to the research level for testing, then transferred to the armories for logging and supply. Only personnel with class 2 authorization are allowed on these three levels, and all else below is classified through the heaviest encryption available.
Occupying the final six levels of Fort Murray, FortiSec is without a doubt the most secure location in the entirety of the Fort, and very likely the whole of Sirius. No individual without class 5 authorization is allowed into the deepest depths of Murray, and for possibly good reason, as the entirety of FortiSec is laced with security at every turn. Very few individuals reside down here aside from the usual high security staff. Most if not all highly advanced technologies are secured down here in the Lock-Up, a heavily reinforced duracrete vault designed to take hits from any source and survive.
Among the best kept secrets of Fort Murray and FortiSec are the refitted spyglass scanners installed on the far low levels of the base. Capable of penetrating through even the toughest of magnetospheres as well as extending to a range of over 500 parsecs, the scanners of Fort Murray are by far the strongest in the sector, rivaling even those of the Spyglass operators themselves. Even with plans drafted from the original blueprints of the Spyglass-class Battleship in use for their construction, alterations were needed to make them usable by the station's power supply. Once this was complete, however, the scanners were soon capable of feats far in excess of what had been thought possible. The personnel manning the Fort have then used these abilities to determine the right locations to strike out at any enemies of the Republic.

The Rangers are an elite group of soldiers specially trained from hand-picked officers and soldiers. While bearing the same responsibilities as a typical Murray marine, the Rangers are also tasked with light-cover field operations. As such, they are also granted a superior set of liberties when dealing with their goals, and the notion has been set the most Rangers operate on their own MO. While this is not quite the case, Murray Rangers have been known to go rogue at times to accomplish their objectives.
The style of the Rangers' equipment reflects their identity as a lone wolf organization. The cliche brown trenchcoat, body armor and atypical 'yahoo'-esque weaponry set them apart from the rest of their compatriots, and some of this even reflects their personalities. In many ways the Rangers are the heart and soul of the installation, and most act as highly experienced field commanders in place of the usual officers.
The Blackguard is a sect of the Rangers focused on the defense of FortiSec as a whole, by any means necessary. Operating under an even deeper set of isolationist rules than the Rangers, if they are they field commanders and the officers' replacements, then the Blackguard are the Generals and the men operating behind the curtain. Most of the Blackguard are hand-picked from the highest caliber of the Rangers' stock and as such only five are known to operate within the confines of Murray's sphere of influence.
The Blackguard are also responsible for covert incursions deep into enemy held space. On many occasions have high ranking Gallic officers been neutralized by a member of the Blackguard masquerading as an operative of the LSF. In addition to covert ops are the semi-overt collaborations with the Order against the Nomad threat. Recognized by the Fort Murray staff after the classified Operation Hidden Giant, Fort Murray's Blackguard was retooled into a force against both their usual enemies as well as the growing Nomadic threat, a job at which they have been very successful at.
An import from the Rio Grande, the Flying Scorpions are a wing of pilots from Fort Murray's air wing tasked with emergency defense and air superiority. Having recently been transferred from the battleship's command, the pilots have taken a strong role in the Fort's defensive posture, and are usually the last stage of defense for Fort Murray's air game before the involvement of ground units.
Assigned as a wing of 13 Guardian-class Liberty Space and Air Superiority fighters, the Flying Scorpions are renowned for their tactical sense and their traditional 'Scarab'-class Photon turret on the aft end of the ship, a cliche of the fighter group that gives them their name.
