Yeah the lag did dissapate after his departure, I'm not sure why he would be causing the lag though as Helghast characters are pretty new...
Very interesting. Hmmmmmmmm if it did say helghast i hope it wasnt me cause i dont usually have lagg
Alright i have an anouncement. I really hope it wasnt my doing but when i logged on to discovery at about this time, the game started lagg alot. I think the reason i was making the lagg (if it was me) was because i running iTunes this particular time. I logged of and when i tried logging on againit said my password didnt work  (wtf?! password?!) so next time if it lets me on, i will not be running extra windows. I really it wasnt me but if it was i am sorry
@Quintinius: If you were running iTunes and maxing out your own bandwidth, chances are only you were seeing lag at your own client, rather than causing it to happen at the server.
But then again this is Micro$oft software..... you never know
I noticed lag tends to happen the most when in space with alot of asteroids.... go to some empty space, lag goes away...... I know that sounds obvious, but suggests the problem is the server is flatlining. Possibly.
(If you find any mistake in my English, please let me know via a PM)
(Really, I speak terrible English, so please, tell me if I make mistakes. I'd like to improve it a bit )
@Korrd: Nope, because it only happens in asteroid environments sometimes, and only in MP.
Ok, I think we're confusing two things here: frame rate lag (where the screen goes jerky), as opposed to comms lag (where the yellow/red computer icon flashes on the HUD).
The first one will happen if your PC is not go-fast enough or has a crappy graphics card. It will happen the same under the same circumstances each time, and equally in SP as MP.
The second one happens because your PC is not receiving updates to the objects in Freelencer quickly enough. This can be result of either slow comms (long ping, maxed bandwidth, etc), or because the server is maxed out and cannot perform the necessary object updates quickly enough. On your PC the frame rate appears smooth as you fly around, but the other ships will appear to jerk all over the place. It will also cause delays in docking and tractoring loot. It will never happen in SP, because your own client is the "server' in that case.
I assume this thread (and all the others dealing with lag) are referring to the second cause.
As for asteroids, I'm also assuming that the server must take care of all asteroid updates, (at least those close by), because all PC and NPC in the vicinity will be affected by them equally. (ie. bounce off them, shoot into them, etc).
Anyway I'm surmising here.... Korrd you'd know more about this stuff than I :D But I'm pretty sure its not my machine.
not it wasnt my own framerate dropping (that usually happens when i run separte windows other thatn FL), the red connection symbol was their and my messages that i type to ages to appear.

I can assure you, all objects are static, including every single asteroid in every single asteroid field.
How do I know this? I have done some testing with my laptop and PC running right next to eachother and it seems that every field is static.
I run one train through asteroid field... one more train trailing 10 Kilometers behind... asteroids stay in exact same pattern.
*HOWEVER* I have noticed lag when large capital ships go in asteroid fields.
I got a zoner jugernaught stuck in an asteroid field, it wound up spinning at an insanely rapid rate, Yellow/Red lag appeared, when the ship stopped spinning, lag was gone.
