There was no warning. No signal that could have alerted them. No transmission over any communication channel, or warcry. Thermal cameras and radars couldn't pick a single hint at his presence there.
And yet, there he was, waiting for them. The first signal they could pick up was that of an explosion a hundred meters away from their formation, which threw rocks on the right hand side of the wing. For a split second, the entire patrol, advacing at impulse speed through the wasteland, deviated their attention and changed their course to avoid the rubble.
The subsecuent salvo of plasma weaponry and a mini-razor type gun obliterated the leftmost hessian ship. Now moving at full speed, the second fighter turned a 180 degrees, only to find a mine at point blank range.
The communication channel erupted with confusion as the aggressor seemingly tried to escape. With still 2 odins intact, they gave chase, firing cruise disruptors and lasers alike. Turning around an asteroid, the second to last pilot died before he could eject, his ship's shield instantly overloaded and its hull vaporized by the high temperature of a razor aimed directy at the cockpit from point blank range.
Sterr's wraith forcefully stopped its engines just as he crossed the last enemy, seemingly erupting from the spontaneus flames and metal scrap of his partner. The entire ship trembled from the sudden maneuver, pushed to it's limits due to the change of pace, going from full speed to a complete halt. Inmediatly after crossing paths with the lone survivor, the last bit of powerplant available in the Hanswurst was depleted, vaporizing the odin's engine and resulting in the explosion of the ship.
Having not blinked once in the lapse of 12 seconds that the intercourse lasted, Driedrik Sterr set course to battleship Altenburg.
