With the exile of their flag due to the confrontation with the governing body of Ishmael, known as Malta to nearly everyone else, most of the previously freelancer-ranked individuals of what was once known as the 'HundredFirst Ghosts of Razgriz Maltese Spectres separated from their squadron in denial of the course their former Administration took. Leftovers from an experiment marked as nonnatural and too dangerous to keep going, they're fractured minds enclosed in synthetic bodies, refusing to discontinue the initial research and stay keen on developing the next generation of human life, aiming for the idea that lies beyond, of an evolved mankind. As a result of that, every newly taken in individual has to undergo a severe augmentation process as well as specialized training before being released into active duty.
Viewing the old elites as bending to the will of those they deem deviate in command, those destroying Nacion's ideals and culture, they partially adopted the old name as a sign of their roots and left maltese territory to seek destiny within the rest of Sirius. The new squadron under the well known flag appears to try making itself a name through ruthless strikes against anyone who opposes their advance in further fostering their own status and operations. Finding themselves in conflict with close to all of the sector, the Spectres manage to stand their ground, albeit always walking the line next to the abyss, and actively seek alliances, whatever it takes, to build up what's needed to rule Nacion once again.
