Quote:6.17 Owners of Pirate IDs have a right to attack:
- Military/Police
- Bounty Hunters - Trader ships that do not pay for passage
What defines a trader? Is it his ID? Ship? Actions?
Let me explain. Most trader IDs (including the house corporations) may fly both transport vessels and fighters. If the "trader" status is based on ID, does a pirate have to demand cargo from a "trader" in an Eagle before killing him?
If the status is based on ship, what about a tradeship pirating with, say, an Outcast ID? Would a Corsair have to demand money/cargo before attacking him?
If actions, would the Rogue have to demand cargo from the LN-IDed Gunboat flying around "trading" H-fuel? (It is not THAT inefficient to trade in a GB...I used to trade in a LF...)
In all cases, what if the "trader" complies with demands?
This is especially pertinent in cases such as Junker IDed vessels in Kusari/under attack by Xenos.
I feel some clarification is needed as to what a "trader" actually is, as I am sometimes tentative about attacking certain ships because they could be classed as a trader...
I've pirated fighters before. I can't answer all of your post, but it seems like a robber wouldn't discriminate. He would rob a supply truck the same as he would mug a man walking down the street, holding him up for whatever is in his wallet.
Of course, he shouldn't be asking 2 million from a level 40 Viper.
But, looking from a purely rules-based perspective, what if I am a Hogosha and I encounter a Junker in one of those freighters with class 10 guns? (which can be a dangerous opponent in their own right) What if he's in a Collector? Or a Heavy Tanker? In which instances, if any, does he count as a trader? And the same thing applies to an Outcast in a Pirate Transport. Does a Corsair have to demand tax?
It seems a little silly, RP-wise, for the Hogosha to have to demand cash or cargo from the Junker in a fighter...and even worse that, if he pays, the Hogosha is left with the issue that the Junker now has right of passage...

I like how some pirates decide to "soften you up" before demanding tax. Simply put, you do that first as a pirate, no tax! BTW, it's cheaper for me to get atomized, re-arm, re-load and take another route while the loot you got you can't sell very well because your rep won't let you sell much of it at a good price.
i don't get it, how can it be cheaper for you to die instead of paying the tax. If i load my adv. train or my whale full with an item that costs more than 500 a piece, i easily go over 2 mill tax that i am usually asked to pay. So from my point of view its cheaper to pay than to die (and its more RP that way also).
As for the questions, on my rogue gunboat i usually pirate anything i see, if it has cargo on board. I rarely ask for a tax/donation. I always want cargo to support the Rogue operations. So in my eyes, anyone carrying cargo is a trader and thus should be treated like on.
As for the outcast/corsair thing. Even though the outcast is trading, they are still at war with each other, so from my point of view they shouldn't RP trader/pirate, but they should RP like enemy's that would like to rip each other limb for limb.

What is the RP explanation for that?
is there any?
If he is going OOPR on you. do you really want to engage just for the kill?

In this case its pretty simple. you should expect to ge treated as OC, therefor attacked acording to RP the corsair can see you just as a trader or OC smuggler and decide to get cash because it will be better for his RP or his cash flow that will help more than stopping the OC in action
I have OC smuggler and i take OC escort when i use Sairs infested areas.
and i Pirate IMG and =CR= in Tau-23 becouse this is what we require from them if the situation becomes very bad we could issue an order to stop all the flow of goods to IMG and get the OC in taus to do so.
But you see the point its all according to the RP regarding that faction.

well thats just a OORP and should be sunctioned. A Gun ship is not build for the purpose of trading that should be clear.

And we all know what a trader is. And i believe as a pirate you allowed and should try to pirate all the lawful and who ever comes your way that have something you want. you live as a pirate you should be able to pirate a Freelancer if you like. i am not sure how that works there but it is logical
