As the lag appears to be caused by heavy Swapping of the hard disk, I have disabled the server's virtual memory.
I've been monitoring the server performance and so far there has been no lag since last reboot, but as I'm not in game right now, i cant check that from inside FL..

I hope this fixes lag for good, a few nights ago I took on one fighter, and sometimes he would stop next to me, and I would shoot him several times with him taking no damage, then he would appear 1.5km away. Very frustrating as I was a dreadnaught with some heavy anti fighter firepower (no missiles, just Nomad turrets) and he got my shields down by the time he was at half armor. I don't know if 1 fighter is supposed to do that to one dreadnaught. : /
The curious breakdown was.... um... curious for me too.
I was watching the server at the time and FL just crashed for no reason, and reloaded automatically... I was like "WTF!?"...
After that, everything started working normally again.
I've been monitoring lag. Server side, it averages 50ms when 15 players are online, with peaks of 200, and lows of 20..
