----- Aboard the Bretonian Battleship 'Duke of York II' New London System, Patrol Path Beta-4 -----

"Sir, Incoming System-Wide Transmission!"

"Put it up on the forward screen, Ensign."

"Aye Aye Sir!"

A face appeared on the viewscreen, shrouded in darkness. It remained there, still, for nearly a minute.

"Ensign, is there a problem?" grated the Admiral, looking to the Com. Officer in annoyance.

"No Sir, this is a live feed, it must be at the other end."

Suddenly, the figure leaned forward unexpctedly, the light revealed a face that came familliar to the Admiral, even nearly 20 years later. It spoke, in a voice that seemd to shake the bulkheads with its purpose and intensity.

"Greetings, spacers of New London. I come to you with an offer, an offer I believe you will find... most intruiging. I am Grand Admiral Mcintosh, Of the Sirius Coalition Revolutionary Army. We are looking for a few spacers with itchy feet."
The Face on the screen smiled grimly.
"Feet itchy enough to, say, cast of the rags of an existence here, on the edge of Civilization, itchy enough to come with us. Where are we going? you might ask. I will tell you only this... Have you ever heard of a little place called... Sol?

Upon this pronouncment, the Bridge of the flagship exploded with whispered exclamaions, a cacophony of silent shifting as the Crew looked expectantly to their Admiral, immobile as stone in his great command chair.

"Yes, i thought that would grab you, spacers of New London... New London... How would you like to see Old London? I know I do. Come join the fleet, we have need of you in our great crusade."

The smile on his face twisted into something more, something terrible to behold, a look of malevolence so deep it might've been taken from the depths of a nightmare. The Bridge leaned back from the demonic face filling the viewscreen, and trembled as he spoke his parting words.

"And to all those fools that would shakle us to this abyss of wretchedness, I have only this: Stand in our way, just once, and the wrath of a thousand years of vile exile will crush you and all you hold dear, will sweep you away on a tide of rage so vile that the gods will retch in agony, and consume you in the fires of Hell Unimaginable."

The figure leaned back into the shadows, and, as the crew breathed a sigh of relief, spoke his parting words.

"Oh, and Admiral Barton: Do remember what happened to the last Flagship that fell afoul of me, for I feel the need for a little more fun!"

The screen snapped to black, leaving silence in its wake.

"Sir? Who was that?"

The Navigator spoke out at last, and his words snapped the Admiral from his reverie.

"Why, that was my old classmate, Commander Mcintosh. Evidently he found a place for an Insane Captain is this strange universe of ours."

The silence held for a moment, and the the Naviator spoke again.

"What happened to the last Flagship Sir?"

"He killed 30,000 fighting men and women with but a Destroyer, and with only him to crew it. He sabatoged our guidance systems, drove the escorts into each other, rammed the fighters into weapon mounts, and emptied our Airlocks to space. He walked in a spacesuit to the flagship, the first Duke of York, and strangled old Admiral Wright to Death with his bare hands. Then he strapped the body to the bow of his destroyer, 'The Terra', and rode out into space whooping like the Devil Himself. The survivors of the fleet watched, trapped in our steel cages, waiting for the air run out, and hating him as we hated nothing else, for he was more than a Traitor, he was a Curse upon our Souls."

The Admiral smiled sadly, as he remembered bygone days and happier times.

"And to think, we were cousins."
