After Action Report | Javier Santana | Cardamine Hauler Hospitaliano | 825 AS |
It was with a bit of trepidation that I once again took command after my time away. The Hospitaliano has certainly seen better days - those months mothballed at Valetta didn't exactly do her any favors - but she held together quite well after the brief tune-up she received before we left. The technicians even managed to fix that incessant rattling that plagued the control-bridge for three years; I guess I owe them a drink or some form of tip when I get back.
Outbound Cardamine Shipment #412a was our objective for this week- overall she was a quiet run with no issues. The Rheinland-route - when handled correctly - still seems to be as viable as it was a few years ago. No patrols managed to seize us or even come within sensor range. Good to know the Rheinwher's defensive sphere is as lax as always.
Things got a bit more interesting on the return trip- or rather, before the return trip. In Texas, while we were waiting for some pleasant junkers to find a decent trove of parts to ship back to Valetta, we happened upon some unfortunate DSE fellows who happily handed over a decent chunk of credits, in exchange for not finding out just how well rated their armor-plating is. Surely they weren't going to miss it, so once that was squared, and the salvage from our good Junker friends was secured aboard, we were off and away towards Alpha yet again for Return #412a.
Logs attached below for the conversation with the DSE vessel for posterity and hilarity.
[08.03.2018 23:16:38] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: Why hello there
[08.03.2018 23:17:04] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: Hi there friend
[08.03.2018 23:17:24] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: thats some fancy cargo you've got there
[08.03.2018 23:18:09] =DSE-Enterprise: well
[08.03.2018 23:18:22] =DSE-Enterprise: Ship hulls?
[08.03.2018 23:18:26] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: Hows about we do it this way.
[08.03.2018 23:18:30] =DSE-Enterprise: Ship hulls
[08.03.2018 23:18:46] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: I let you fly free, and you fork over 4mil
[08.03.2018 23:18:59] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: otherwise, this situation gets ugly
[08.03.2018 23:19:03] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: comprendo?
[08.03.2018 23:19:23] =DSE-Enterprise: cargo is only worth 1.25million... that is silly.
[08.03.2018 23:19:45] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: Thats your choice bud. Need an answer in the next few seconds.
[08.03.2018 23:19:55] =DSE-Enterprise: 2 million
[08.03.2018 23:20:03] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: I'm thinkin' 4 mil actually
[08.03.2018 23:20:23] =DSE-Enterprise: too much. 2.5
[08.03.2018 23:20:31] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: 4 million. Last chance.
[08.03.2018 23:20:50] =DSE-Enterprise: 2.5
[08.03.2018 23:21:01] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: I wont tell you again. 4 mil or I open fire
[08.03.2018 23:21:18] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: Good man.
[08.03.2018 23:21:35] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: Be on your way then.
[08.03.2018 23:21:46] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: and hire a better negotiator next time.
Outbound #414a started as any run any day would- we loaded up and 30 minutes of pre-flight checks later we were adrift, mooring away from Valetta's docking arms and firing main drives bound for Liberty. Halfway through our slingshot maneuver around Elysium in Omicron Beta we had a brief issue with Engine #1 sputtering briefly before returning to normal functions. I've marked the issue in the maintenance log for the technicians to look at when we get back.
Something interesting happened the next day in Frankfurt:
A pair of BDM patrol-ships took umbrage with my presence near the lanes in the system and ordered us to pull aside, out of contact range of Mainz. Afterwards, they kindly escorted us for the remainder of our time within Rheinland. Apparently some talks were in progress while I was away to better establish the Nacione within the Rheinlander's territory. At least with BDM anyway- their Police units were less than happy to see us but evading them is Transport Command 101- so that was of no consequence.
Near the end of our time with them, one of the BDM captains mentioned something odd.. something I'll have to consider looking into next time I get a chance to talk to some old contacts back up in Freeport 10's direction. Apparently Nox - that purple crap from Gallia - has been a subject of their interest for a time. There was no direct request for its acquisition but keeping friends in interesting places has kept the Nacione alive this long- and I see no reason that should change now.
[10.03.2018 02:49:09] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: Just full of questions today, aren't we?
[10.03.2018 02:49:11] BDM|U-101: ?: Say, What do you know about NOX?
[10.03.2018 02:49:21] BDM|U-101: ?: Hey, we're intel officers. Its what we do... anyway-
[10.03.2018 02:49:25] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: Rheinland-made fuel, yes?
[10.03.2018 02:49:33] BDM|U-101: ?: Nono- NOX, not MOX.
[10.03.2018 02:49:44] BDM|U-101: ?: Purple... stuff that people inhale.
[10.03.2018 02:49:52] BDM|U-201: Lichthammer: Drug?!
[10.03.2018 02:49:57] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: Oh yeah... that crap. Gallic, right?
[10.03.2018 02:50:02] BDM|U-101: ?: Uhuh.
[10.03.2018 02:50:07] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: Jumping in progress
[10.03.2018 02:51:11] BDM|U-101: ?: I'd think I'd love to get a sample of it.
[10.03.2018 02:51:32] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: I get the feeling this is a request more than an idle musing...
[10.03.2018 02:51:38] BDM|U-101: ?: And maybe put some record right about its... 'harmful use'.
[10.03.2018 02:51:43] BDM|U-101: ?: No, more like a message.
[10.03.2018 02:52:00] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: I'll keep that in mind amico
Return #414b Involved a brief chat with some engineers on Beaumont about a possible fix to our problematic #1 Engine- no such luck I'm afraid. Afterwards my XO headed the launch operation while I got some coffee. An hour or so later on the far side of Texas, we ran into a Unioner vessel- marked UN|Hydra.
We managed to evade cruise interdiction for a while before arriving at Freeport 2-- we held there for a few minutes to see if he'd continue his pursuit. Turns out he was interested enough to follow so, we had a brief exchange. There was an offer for an escort through Rheinland space but suspecting an attempt to get us away from safety and blow our hold open- I refused. A bit of chatting later and we went our separate ways unscathed, and our run went otherwise uneventful.
[10.03.2018 05:02:35] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: Something I can help you with amico?
[10.03.2018 05:02:53] UN|Hydra: ?: Yeah I would like to know what you do here.
[10.03.2018 05:03:57] UN|Hydra: ?: It isnt common to your kind here
[10.03.2018 05:04:08] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: just hauling some cargo home amico
[10.03.2018 05:04:28] UN|Hydra: ?: Would you please hold on for a moment ?
[10.03.2018 05:04:39] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: Bit on a time crunch though so, pardon my terseness
[10.03.2018 05:05:52] UN|Hydra: ?: Home heh ?
[10.03.2018 05:06:10] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: Malta, if you must know. Figured that'd be obvious amico.
[10.03.2018 05:06:36] UN|Hydra: ?: So why you sit here ? I thought your time is limited ?
[10.03.2018 05:07:06] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: Security more than anything. Safety is preferred over time in this instance.
[10.03.2018 05:07:47] UN|Hydra: ?: So Marly...let me see..over Liberty i guess ?
[10.03.2018 05:07:58] UN|Hydra: ?: Or over Rheinland ?
[10.03.2018 05:08:23] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: I beg your pardon?
[10.03.2018 05:09:03] UN|Hydra: ?: You wanted to head for Malta, *sighs* if you go through Rheinland i could offer you a escort.
[10.03.2018 05:09:56] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: *chuckles* I'd appreciate it amico but I think I'll pass this run. Can't really justify the added expenses to my---
[10.03.2018 05:10:00] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: superiors.
[10.03.2018 05:10:20] UN|Hydra: ?: Oh no worries, it wouldn't cost you anything.
[10.03.2018 05:10:28] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: Besides, I've got friends around Rheinland that'd prefer to not see your kind. Wouldn't want that causing issues.
[10.03.2018 05:10:52] UN|Hydra: ?: Same for me , wich friends ?
[10.03.2018 05:11:10] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: Ones that prefer to remain anonymous
[10.03.2018 05:11:40] UN|Hydra: ?: Oh I think there aren't much choises. *laughs*
[10.03.2018 05:12:26] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: Draw what conclusions you like amico.
[10.03.2018 05:12:57] UN|Hydra: ?: Well I will. Safe skies then.
[10.03.2018 05:13:16] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: To you as well, I suppose.
Outbound and Return #417 both were uninteresting flights. Cargo delivered and scrap returned without issue save for a minor disciplinary matter with two of the loading-crew in the lower hold.
Return #417 had us spot a few GMG vessels at about 16k from our position on our way out of the Sigmas- that being the case, my XO and myself decided that the Sigma-route would be a poor choice for #418 - so we requisitioned a brief hull inspection to be sure we're prepared for any asteroid impacts - and got ready for a run through the Taus.
We made a brief pit-stop at Freeport 6 to have a bulkhead inspected following a small impact when we came across a vessel marked the Ibn Battuta- a freelancer ship that was searching for work. On a whim, I inquired about the Nox our friends in the BDM were after- turns out the crew was interested and capable of getting ahold of a few cases so we sent them on their way with the promise of payment.
After the completion of Return #418, we loaded up on another stockpile of Cardamine - intentionally leaving some space in the cargo hold for the fruits of our new friend's labors - afterwards heading off to rendezvous at Freeport 10 as the agreed meeting point with the freelancers.
After only a few hours of waiting on the mooring-arm, in-flies the Battuta- way earlier than expected with our cargo of Nox in tow. Initially the plan was to short the freelancers on their payment so as to not dip too deeply into operational funds but with their quick response to our request- shorting them didn't quite feel right. We've been in the green on credits allocated for repairs since we started operations again so, we'll go ahead and call it a "maintenence fee" just to keep things squared.
Having now completed Outbound #419, we're now waiting on Beaumont for a stable connection through to Rheinland territory to inform the BDM agents of their inbound acquisition. Here's hoping this earns us a few favors in return.
As always: the Relevant data-packets are attached below for record keeping,
Initial Contact:
[12.03.2018 03:09:02] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: Ciao- freelancer
[12.03.2018 03:09:17] CSSV-Ibn.Battuta: W: Ah, hello.
[12.03.2018 03:10:06] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: Interesting uh... ship you've there amico... any reason you have no armament?
[12.03.2018 03:10:53] CSSV-Ibn.Battuta: ?: I find it makes many otherwise hostile groups reconsider their choice to shoot me.
[12.03.2018 03:11:34] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: Interesting choice I suppose. If it works, it works.
[12.03.2018 03:11:50] CSSV-Ibn.Battuta: W: Certainly does.
[12.03.2018 03:12:05] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: What brings your ilk here then? Kinda a desolate place
[12.03.2018 03:12:28] CSSV-Ibn.Battuta: W: Currently conducting stellar surveys of the Border and Edge Worlds. We're a science vessel, you see.
[12.03.2018 03:13:33] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: So I do...
[12.03.2018 03:14:02] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: As it happens I actually could use some individuals like you. How are you for freelance work?
[12.03.2018 03:14:13] CSSV-Ibn.Battuta: W: It's our lifeblood.
[12.03.2018 03:15:24] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: Good good... Lets take this away from the Freeport... sensor arrays of impartial locations. The less this is spread around the--
[12.03.2018 03:15:26] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: better.
[12.03.2018 03:15:48] CSSV-Ibn.Battuta: W: Copy that. I'll follow your lead.
[12.03.2018 03:19:05] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: Righto. Now then-- What do you know of Cardamine amico?
[12.03.2018 03:19:31] CSSV-Ibn.Battuta: W: Quite a bit. Worked with a great deal of groups that dealt with the drug on the reg.
[12.03.2018 03:20:49] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: Si, si - thats good thats good... The Cardamine trade is a powerful thing in this sector amico
[12.03.2018 03:21:41] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: It's not the only drug exchange around though- something I think you can guess we have a vested interest in
[12.03.2018 03:22:57] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: Now. Gallia's explosive intrusion into Sirius was a shock to us all but... Not as much as it's effect on Sirius' economies
[12.03.2018 03:23:40] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: And the drug trade is very much an economy
[12.03.2018 03:24:29] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: Nox- a substance made in Gallia has had something of an effect on the drug trade in these parts- not a large one mind
[12.03.2018 03:24:51] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: but enough of one for eyebrows to be raised. Interests to be piqued, and curiosity to be expressed
[12.03.2018 03:25:06] CSSV-Ibn.Battuta: W: I've seen a vial or two in my time.
[12.03.2018 03:25:27] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: Good, that makes things easier then- you know what you're after.
[12.03.2018 03:25:37] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: How easily do you think you can get ahold of a few cases?
[12.03.2018 03:26:16] CSSV-Ibn.Battuta: W: Well... I'll have to dredge up some contacts from the old days. But I can get a hearty sampling.
[12.03.2018 03:27:22] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: Fantastico-- 10 cases should be more than plenty for our purposes.
[12.03.2018 03:27:37] CSSV-Ibn.Battuta: W: What's the pay?
[12.03.2018 03:28:01] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: How does around 20 million credits sound?
[12.03.2018 03:28:29] CSSV-Ibn.Battuta: W: *He confers with other crew members for a brief moment, before turning back* Sounds good to us.
[12.03.2018 03:29:12] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: Excelente-- I take it this can be done quickly then?
[12.03.2018 03:29:38] CSSV-Ibn.Battuta: W: Within twenty-four hours. I'll need contact info and a place to drop it, though.
[12.03.2018 03:30:09] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: That depends-- whats your relative standing with the Maltese IFF system?
[12.03.2018 03:30:23] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: would our patrols flag you as hostile?
[12.03.2018 03:30:36] CSSV-Ibn.Battuta: W: Negative. Your patrols out here don't seem to care much.
[12.03.2018 03:31:51] CSSV-Ibn.Battuta: W: Hopefully any ships in your home system won't give me trouble for hauling Nox.
[12.03.2018 03:32:15] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: We'll err on the side of caution then and say Freeport 10-- wouldn't want my new amigo getting fired on for --
[12.03.2018 03:32:20] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: silly reasons now would we?
[12.03.2018 03:32:33] CSSV-Ibn.Battuta: W: Of course. Works for me.
[12.03.2018 03:33:08] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: Perfecto-- I must be off then, ping Javier Santana when you've got what you're after, and we'll arrange a time,
[12.03.2018 03:33:10] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: comprende?
[12.03.2018 03:33:17] CSSV-Ibn.Battuta: W: Copy that.
[12.03.2018 03:33:37] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: Safe skies then amigo-- We must be going~
[12.03.2018 03:33:42] CSSV-Ibn.Battuta: W: Safe skies.
Upon completion of mission:
[12.03.2018 04:37:37] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: Amigo-- your timing is impressive
[12.03.2018 04:37:45] CSSV-Ibn.Battuta: W: What can I say? I have my ways.
[12.03.2018 04:37:59] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: I was expecting this to take longer. Good for you on that front
[12.03.2018 04:38:07] CSSV-Ibn.Battuta: W: Of course, I did have to run the blockade in Languedoc to make good time.
[12.03.2018 04:38:55] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: Well, im sure my employer appreciates your risks
[12.03.2018 04:39:09] CSSV-Ibn.Battuta: W: Hope he does. I'm beaming the contents to you now.
[12.03.2018 04:39:33] CSSV-Ibn.Battuta: W: And now, the payment, of course.
[12.03.2018 04:40:05] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: As promised - your compensation.
[12.03.2018 04:40:05] CSSV-Ibn.Battuta: W: Transaction successful. Pleasure doing business with you.
[12.03.2018 04:40:28] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: Likewise. We'll be keeping your people in mind next time we need something discreetly.
[12.03.2018 04:40:20] CSSV-Ibn.Battuta: W: By the way, I don't think we ever exchanged names.
[12.03.2018 04:40:54] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier Santana, Armando-family Transport Hospitaliano.
[12.03.2018 04:41:21] CSSV-Ibn.Battuta: W: Foulke. Will Foulke. You ever need anything done, you let us know.
[12.03.2018 04:41:39] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: I certainly will. Safe skies amigo.
[12.03.2018 04:41:48] 2018-03-12 04:41:47 SMT Traffic control alert: CSSV-Ibn.Battuta has requested to dock
After Action Report | Javier Santana | Cardamine Hauler Hospitaliano | 825 AS |
Our little agreement with the BDM came to a close today-- I reached out to my BDM contact a few days ago to arrange the transfer of the goods.
Based on the conversation with the.. "Agent" we spoke with, it would seem the Nacione's standing with our friends in the BDM is still trends positive. Still, we kept to orders and held onto a sample for return to Malta--- which has since been delivered to Valetta for recovery.
Manifests and logs attached below for recordkeeping.
[13.03.2018 03:39:06] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: Signore Enfield?
[13.03.2018 03:39:20] BDM|U-101: ?: *Radio crackle* Close, but no cigar. I'm an affiliate.
[13.03.2018 03:40:09] BDM|U-101: ?: But working along side him, yes. *She waves at him, she seems to be dressed in a fully consealed flight suit*
[13.03.2018 03:41:02] BDM|U-101: ?: You have the Nox samples, correct?
[13.03.2018 03:41:27] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: You'll forgive me of being skeptical signora-- I tend to hand off goods to the person I'm in an arrangement with
[13.03.2018 03:41:47] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: I'll trust your word over that of the average Rogue however, given your organization's... reputation
[13.03.2018 03:41:56] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: I do, but theres a caviet
[13.03.2018 03:42:38] BDM|U-101: ?: There always is... Isn't there? *She chuckles, trying to scratch her chin, but bumps the bottom of her helmet accidentally.*
[13.03.2018 03:42:56] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: I've been asked to hold onto a number of this product for my people's own purposes-- this is no problem, si?
[13.03.2018 03:43:44] BDM|U-101: ?: The Nox? You guys interested in it too huh?
[13.03.2018 03:44:05] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: Assets are assets amico-- such information could be useful
[13.03.2018 03:44:34] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: call it cautious pragmatism. We only need a single case of it however, the rest is yours
[13.03.2018 03:44:48] BDM|U-101: ?: Well, whatever I can pull out of the labs since I'm the one writing the reports to the Direktor, will hopefully can forward-
[13.03.2018 03:45:29] BDM|U-101: ?: It to you, and we won't be needing too much of it anyway... Substance abuse with things such as this isn't used by us.
[13.03.2018 03:45:51] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: fair enough signora
[13.03.2018 03:46:21] BDM|U-101: ?: Thank you very much.
[13.03.2018 03:46:24] BDM|U-101: ?: Hold on.
[13.03.2018 03:46:48] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: Something else?
[13.03.2018 03:47:36] BDM|U-101: ?: *She picks up a seperate hand radio* Home base, this is Silver-Dream. Goods recieved, proxy transfer is a go...
[13.03.2018 03:48:03] You have received 15.000.000 credits from anonymous
[13.03.2018 03:48:25] BDM|U-101: ?: Affirmative Home Base, we're moving out in 5.
[13.03.2018 03:48:39] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: This was meant as a gift signora- payment was not needed--
[13.03.2018 03:49:02] BDM|U-101: ?: No, thats not needed.
[13.03.2018 03:49:23] BDM|U-101: ?: You never know when we'll need to trust eachother again.
[13.03.2018 03:49:42] BDM|U-101: ?: We always leave shaking hands with good attitudes.
[13.03.2018 03:50:13] BDM|U-101: ?: Unless... We're obviously pissed beyond repair.
[13.03.2018 03:50:21] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: true I suppose-- well, I've a schedule to keep-- I'll take my leave of your... ever welcoming territory.
[13.03.2018 03:50:33] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: Best skies to you and your signore....?
[13.03.2018 03:51:17] BDM|U-101: ?: Nice try, but maybe I'll say next time if I can get out of the labs.
[13.03.2018 03:51:36] NC-ET-Hospitaliano: Javier: fair enough. Farewell then
[13.03.2018 03:51:54] BDM|U-101: ?: Take care Javier.
