Solution for POBs in mining areas: use the "Entered Freeport NFZ" messaging system

Heyho!

I came up with a potential solution for mining field POBs that are bad for gameplay and who cause great frustration for too many players.

You know the message that is displayed when you get close to a Freeport? Something like: "You have entered the No Fire Zone..."

We should have something like this when you enter 10k around the mining area.

Quote:"You have entered the mining area. Do not construct anything in here, it will be destroyed."

> It can be worded like in roleplay, so it does not have to read "//no POBs allowed in here".
> It warns players who think this is a good idea and they might refrain from doing it without reading up on the rules (bad news: only core 2 allowed!) or asking friends (who tell them that it is going to get killed fast)

Imo it would be fair to use existing game mechanics (like the Freeport NFZ message) to educate players who might not know better at that point in their Disco career.

It's somewhat sad to see those who have mastered mining, who have the funds to get invested into bigger tasks... to leave due to frustration over the destruction of their POB that they built where logic would make you build it if it was real.

Bye!

Jack

But it only might be destroyed. And any PoB can be destroyed. In any place. Problems not in mining zones, problems in fact, some players dont want play diplomacy after PoB building.

As a "bush-lawyer" with experience in these matters...

House Law sets the decision on placement of bases. Some enforce a 10km ban, others don't care unless it is not given the green light. Same as Jump holes/gates. Some House laws say no constructing within 10km of a JH/JG, others don't litigate.

Server rules says any mine with 10km of a mine field cannot be built betound a Core 2.

Good thoughts though!

Cheers!

That's not a solution, that's a treatment.

Rebalancing hull and repair rates, then letting players sort their issues out from then on would be a solution.

Call it what you want, the players deserve a warning that it is likely not going to be well-received and that they will lose their POB. And we have a on-server feature to do exactly that.

Our new members mostly are not taking rules seriously, hardly read rules, or don't follow rules they don't like or agree with. But they understand cash flows and taxes very well.

You can't force them, Jack. You can't enlighten them, too. Words destroying and shooting are bad words. That's why road police taxes you for speeding, rather than shooting you (in your country).

But we veterans can follow rules much better. So let's make a rule: PoBs in minefields can be taxed without limit.

That probably will force new players to think about rules in general.

Hehe. But what about mining fields, my friend?

Bretonia has put a beacon to highlight the centre of the gold field in Dublin. It is exactly 10km from the JH to New London. Perhaps an advisory saying something like... "This field is subject to Bretonian Law. Read and heed the rules. No construction without permission".

Taxing them would also work. There will always be those among us who will deliberately plant an illegal base there for the RP knowing it will be destroyed. Perhaps a view that any illegal, unsanctioned base in a mine field is subject to immediate destruction, by anyone.

But they do attract the flies (pirates, hustlers etc) which makes for some fun RP interplay.

Good words, but there no rules about mining fields instead of core limit... i dont understand why it so dramatic, especially when core 1 PoB building for lawful\neutrals not any hard.

Mining fields already have a entry message coded in by the mod. This would mean just an additional message to be coded with a larger range (the 15k ?) saying something like "approaching mining deposits/field".
