Discovery Freelancer pvp not good for newbies, it is designed for veteran players. Not even talking about hidden tactics and pretty sure there is more hidden tactics waiting to be explored
I agree with what Karlotta said tbh. All my complaints (and I'm an old fart around here now) are in that one post she made. The community is largely broken in a lot of aspects. And I know Sombra will come and tell me "Gave, stop focusing on the bad sides." but.. if I am doing what I like to do, and as much as I try to avoid (either some people or some drama), they eventually get to me, and ruin my mood/game.
I am here to have fun, to enjoy an RP environment that has a lot of possibilities (in my opinion). I am tired to fend off Justice Rule Police on my feedback threads from mainly stupid and irrelevant stuff from which many just really don't care. I am tired of all the tense attitudes and edgy lowkey personalities that are around this forum, and I am mostly tired of the "hey I know you, Ill do stuff with you or etc" kind of thinking from.. still a good amount of people.
What keeps me are some people that started to be my internet pals and some people that have potential into building (or trying to build) some nice new RP environment. Other wise, I would've pressed the Nuke button a long time ago.

How do you plan to do that?
Work not on the ship guns balance, power cores etc. Work on how the ships FLY in this game. We are not playing Tribes Ascend in space ffs. The FL game has a very retarted way of quasi-Fail Newtonian physics in it. Make the way the ships fly to feel like an actual dogfight. We have numerous space games that approach a more arcadish and user-friendly type of space flight (Check Everspace). And I believe it could be done. I also am sure that some mods had something similar too. Most online games have a learning curve, this game has nothing. The gap between pvpcuks and noob pvpers is large. For an RP server like Disco, that doesn't need to exist.

Devs:
-Weapons that are just as effective at a lower skill level and which are good counters to techniques like shield running, like missiles (they were made useless for all fighters but a few when they were assigned to CD slot)
-More anti snub-missions and more challenging spawning/guarding snub npcs the give noobs more snub practice early on
-Make Freelancer snubs more versatile by giving them good mining bonus with a rear mounted mining turret, so they're also able to defend against NPCs and pirates while they mine on their first/main character, and don't need to set up anonymous small miners everywhere.
-More ingame help that teaches noobs things (like the Help System)
Admins:
- More "material" sanctions for vets that remove larger fractions of their gear/credits the more they own
- More easily accessible rules so noobs learn them faster. Yes, that's also a PvP thing, because poor knowledge of rules makes you easy to get sanctioned when your enemy doesnt like that he couldnt kill you, and some people PvP with rules.
Official Factions (and unofficial ones too):
- Recruit as many noobs as you can
- let them fly caps under the condition that they submit themselves to snub and cap PvP training
- stop smearing other factions for the mistakes that their noob recruits make
Everyone:
- Stop seal-clubbing
- Stop whining about noobs using numbers and size to win (or like it is i most cases, to survive)
- Help noobs who are being seal-clubbed even if you know you'll get flak for it and even if their RP sucks. They'll be much more willing to listen to your advice about RP and unwritten PvP rules if you help them, than if you don't even though you're their IRP ally.
Half of the people reading this doing half of it would already be great.
Sometimes I really get the impression that many veteran fonzies of the game are too comfortable in the niche that has developed by being long in the game. Nothing wrong in that niche being there, but it is isolationist somewhat.
As an example, the weak RP'd vigilante approach to destroying bases, what Karlotta called "community policing" by long-term players (but not all) has been destructive. (To quote Paddy "RP so thin that if it were underwear it would make a nudist blush").
Seems the well is poisoned and all that come to sip of the refreshing waters that should be the DiscoveryGC experience has swallowed bitter water.
I don't think it wrong to reflect upon things. But things won't change.
It'll be a continuing " Let the one who does wrong continue to do wrong; let the vile person continue to be vile; let the one who does right continue to do right, and let the good person continue to be good".

And the demise of the server grows ever closer. Tsukihime Labs Complex was destroyed. It was an established operation basically four bases NOT in a mining zone and had an excellent RP history.
The ugly side of a bunch of negative players who will clobber any venture simply because, well you can. Note the attack threads - the weakest of RP to get by the scrutiny of a sanction, It doesn't matter that the players have invested many many hours into building the complex, never mind the negative effect this has on player morale and their desires to be a part of the game, never mind the good it does for the server players who bought supplies.
Down the gurgler. It's an ugly, hateful and nasty major part of this game and I am disgusted that players play for selfish stupid reasons, and deny players the opportunity to have a small place in the scheme of things. It is ugly because you are ugly spirited. Just because you can destroy the base and with a RP reason never mind how weak and insipid that reason.
Players give up because too many Wyatt Earp syndrome mental cases are allowed to roam free on the server and there is no real accountability.
Well done, those whom I will call scum bags, for that is what you are, for destroying yet another players joy, vision, purpose for being and undermining yet again the declining player numbers.

Nah, it's just some player of a certain faction behind an alt, flagrantly metagaming. The guy in question acted alone. This wasn't a mass community pile-in; indeed from what I heard even members of the faction he was in were outraged.
With that out of the way, POBs are not the be-all end-all of Disco. They should be, at most, a utility, not the focus of huge amounts of activity for the sake of activity. Motoko's actually doing non-POB stuff as well, which is why she hasn't ragequit Discovery like some other players when their POBs died.
I understand the concern you and Paddy may have, but if you're only here to complain about the attitude of a certain segment of the community, please never go into politics. You'll go mad within an hour.
Click here to hop on a Discord server and get some help. We already talked to Motoko.
It´s unfortunate situation when effort gets wasted. Question is if counter-measures were applied properly, seems to me they were not. For example, if the effort invested into creating and maintaining cool looking four bases was invested into building one core three or four base instead, it would be still there probably because it could be hardly destroyed by few players. And if everythign was really destroyed by just a single individual, then something was very wrong with supplies for those base bases (as far as I know, one battleship can not destroy even core 1 base if it´s shielded and properly supplied).

Good thoughts. Never-the-less people have been discouraged and left quietly without rage-quitting, and I just see the repetition of similar and same actions here that I have seen at other times to other player bases.
Agree with you "They should be, at most, a utility, not the focus of huge amounts of activity for the sake of activity." What I cannot understand is why the "selective" attacks on certain POB's and not others. (Insider trading I suspect).
I don't know Paddy's concerns - she left months ago - although her going took a lot of the joy in me playing Discovery. Even if I agreed/disagreed with her on many things

Amazing! Tsukihime Labs was destroyed, and already the RP threads that were so interesting to read have been removed.
This from Oldminer:
"Another episode of a lot of hard work by a lot of players who are not trigger happy being destroyed and all that would have followed such an enterprising creation lost forever.
I also feel for you MotokoSusu and all the others that have their bases destroyed by a moments RP. How much more RP would have been created if these bases had been left alone to prosper. Even the pirates would have prospered by praying on the ships that travel to these bases.
I suppose that is the human nature of some."
I agree, although the thread you wrote this in was "sanitised" (removed) because people want to avoid a trial by forum. Why can't the Forum managers at least allow a little grieving time?
