History

With an interest in science and technology from a young age, it was obvious to her parents growing up that Rachel would follow in her father Michael's footsteps. Although Michael's later career turned to business management, he encouraged his daughter's scientific aptitude, paying for the best private schools and education that Liberty had to offer. In her first year of secondary school, Rachel's interests turned specifically to the process of terraforming. Off like a rocket, she spent her last two years of secondary school completing every science-related extracurricular activity that she could to ensure her enrollment in Cambridge, her first choice school.

Gaining admittance to Cambridge in her junior year of secondary school, Rachel accelerated her classes and finished a year early, and started Cambridge immediately after. Full of pride, her parents wished her well on her voyage to Bretonia, and visited often during her schooling. Her education was only accelerated by her passion for the topic, and her refusal to take any breaks from studying. She completed her bachelors in three years, her masters in 18 months and her doctorate in a year. Her final thesis submitted to the Board of Trustees at Cambridge was titled The Impact of Native Microorganisms on Terraforming Techniques, which was later published in several journals.

Unafraid of using her father's Planetform connection for her own benefit, Rachel was brought on board with the company immediately after securing her last degree. She was immediately assigned to consult with the Terraforming Operations Center on large Planetform projects. However, Rachel quickly grew frustrated by the beaurocracy of the company her father served. Always a scientist, she made it a mission to hunt out ways to make the terraforming process faster. Constantly put down and discouraged by her seniors at Planetform, she was told to "trust the process" and "let the men handle it." It pissed her off enough that her resulting actions destroyed her career.

In early January 824 A.S., Rachel introduced a custom-synthesized bio-organism into a terraforming project Planetform was working on in the Omega systems. The organism was genetically engineered to rapidly convert basic gases that were harmful to humans - methane, carbon dioxide, etc. - into more useful ones like oxygen. However, in her excitement to show Planetform what she could do, she didn't account for the late technical additions of other members of the team. Her organism directly attacked a technical component from another scientist, and the resulting reaction completely obliterated the planet's biosphere. It would be uninhabitable for centuries.

Disgraced and fired after an internal Planetform review of the incident, Rachel was estranged from her family as well. Remembering fondly her time at Cambridge, she fled back to her university and spent over a year attempting to secure a position as a professor at the school. She failed. Now, without any prospects, Rachel is leaving Bretonia, going out to explore the sector, and find a new path. She's recently heard of the Sirius Coalition Expeditionary Corps, and their need for advanced scientists who can help build the Coalition a home. Her next step on that journey is a visit to Mykolaiv Research Station in Omega 52.
