Unfortunately, the updated model has entirely neutered the ship's pvp capabilities. It was a great cargo piracy ship that had seven forward firing turrets, but now it has only four. The number of rear firing turrets has also been reduced.
The ship needs its hardpoints altered to restore its combat capabilities to what they were previously. I note Kazinsal has already stated on Discord he will look into this, which is great, however I'd hate for this to get lost in the mix which is why I am making this thread.
Both BWT models were submitted with 11 turret hardpoints, which allowed the new models to have the same turret coverage as the old one.
The current ship entries ingame seem to be using only 9 of those hardpoints, which would explain the reduced firepower. Since the hardpoints are already in the .cmp, it'd just needs one of the balance devs to list it in the .ini and the new BWTs will have the same offensive balance as the old model.
I'm also noticing that the turrets that are on the sides don't have 360 arcs, even though there's nothing blocking them from shooting in all directions. Is there a reason for this?

The new model looks cool and I’m not trying to knock the hard work that went in to it, but it’s extremely frustrating to fly now.

i agree! when it came out, i bought it just to fly with her and ... not even a week later i scrap it for being so disapointed!!!
Presumably, this was another strike of the basically everyone opinion that ships with the ability to move cargo should be gimped in combat.
Its a opinion that I am about a thousand percent against, feeling that anyone making a ship that carries goods should also be designed to defend those goods, for a variety of reasons.
Myself, shoot, I really feel as though the ship ought be able to fight off a gunboat.
I certainly feel like the smaller transports should be able to fight VHFs effectively with practice. The big cashcows that exceed battletransport size should probably die when shot, and die rapidly, without escorts. A lower max theoretical cargo in a transport should buy you some survivability.
This is from the perspective of someone who benefits from transports being easy to wipe, since it encourages people to pay the pirate rather than flee.
The flip side is that suitability should be ability to survive engagement whilst running away for long enough to get to the nearest NPC station from wherever you're being pirated/accosted by police/Navy. Transports should rarely be choicey PVP tools, except maybe armoured transports.
Low DPS, but tanky enough for a a VHF to need over a minute to kill by itself, up to five minutes or more depending on competence. Certainly should be able to kill its accostors, but not in burst damage. After all, there are plenty of server rule violating transports who try to nuke the pirate without RP mid-demand-line.
