Even in a complete wartime economy and with a state on the edge, you have preserved incorruptibility and the rule of law. You have banded together with organisations once considered terror cells to fight for a free nation. You have kept your social fabric intact with your house in far more danger than Rheinland ever was at the end of the eighty years war. Rheinland’s soul was broken after the eighty years war, then broken again in the Nomad Conflict. Bretonia stands alone.


But we are Unioners and we have a long list of reasons not to trust spies, even when our interests align. Even when we see opportunities in working together.



We are going to tell you the following:the full details of an impeding Alster Union attack on critical corporate interests in Northern Rheinland. What you do with the information will decide if we trust you.

The Alster Union has arranged a treaty within the Bering system, freeing up large numbers of Unioner assets in an intelligence coup de grace that we believe has not yet been fed to our primary operational threats, the BDM and the Rheinland Police Force. Even if they do know of the movement, they do not know of its objective.

A large number of ships will exit Bering and immediately head for Hamburg low orbit, temporarily overwhelming the local defence grids and on-sight corporate security. With the Military engaged in their misguided war against Kusari instead of the GMG who instigated the conflict, whilst prepping in Berlin for a Hessian attack, they will certainly lose control of the airspace for anything between ten and twenty five minutes before the Police can ready a sizable enough Rapid Reaction Force to route the Unioner flotillas. They will expect that we will be attempting to seize depots in order of the planet, and will be aware that we will not have the time to obtain a significant amount of useful product before their reinforcements arrive. What they do not know is that we have no intention of stealing anything.

A Unioner vessel will fire two multi-gigatonne nuclear electromagnetic pulse warheads at the Altona shipping station , the nexus for all goods and materials passing between Rheinland and Liberty, not to mention Planet Hamburg and the rest of Rheinland space. The initiator and receiver warheads will detonate ahead of the hull, saturating the station’s electronics with a cone of radiation and electromagnetic discharge. All aboard Altona will fail. The station will remain structurally intact, yet radiation weakened. Any traders aboard the will require medical attention for exposure, but will be alive. This will coincide with a general strike encouraged by the Rheinland Imperial Party in protest of Hamburg Local Government policies imposed by their political rivals. The Imperial Party has pre-existing plans for relief effort, and will appear decisive and engaged with the plight of the people, and will receive major political gains from their responsiveness and show of unity. We believe that this will be enough to return the Imperial Party to a majority in the upcoming planetary election cycle, providing pro-Federalist parties do not rig the vote by any more than their usual margin of ballot-stuffing and voter harassment.

The flash will occur when Altona is in orbit over the middle of the Herz Ozean, which will prevent major cities from being impacted severely by the EM wave. However, the wave will bounce off Hamburg’s magnetosphere and incapacitate up to twenty percent of the planet’s neural communication satellites for hours. Minor coastal settlements will be impacted. The death toll is unknown, but it will be a rounding error compared to number of Hamburg citizens who take their own lives, starve, or freeze due to corporate malfeasance every day, and the legions of Exiled Union descendants who are extrajudicially murdered by the Federal Police Force and BDM every hour.

We believe that the general strike will cause Republican to shut down certain functions of Altona, thus decreasing a major death-count aboard the station. Again, the figure remains unknown. It will likely be lower than the Alster Chemical Weapons attack. It will, however, be visible across the entirety of Hamburg against the night sky, in a great, blue flash.

We expect Republican’s share price to fluctuate in panic trading post-attack until the Corporation can issue a statement of condemnation and Altona station’s electrical systems can be replaced, returning the station to usability. We then expect that Republican will invest heavily in corporate security for its employees to save political face. This will also have the advantage of aligning the company’s PR with the Imperial Party’s call for greater security in the face of corruption and security threats against the common, working man.

Bretonia can use this information to make strategic investments in Rheinland. As Liberty/Rheinland trade falls with the station’s incapacitation, Bretonian/Rheinlandic trade will increase, providing your house’s economy with a much-needed economic stimulus. The Union will also inform
the pro-Imperial Kruger Minerals (who see eye-to-eye with our goal of returning Rheinland to a social democracy with a constitutional monarch to check over-eager special interest groups against the people’s cause), in the expectation that Kruger will benefit by providing Republican with relief supplies.

Now. We have given you all the information you need to prevent the attack from taking place. You can wire this entire transmission to the BDM, and ensure that Hamburg is sufficiently protected in the near future that no Unioner raid will get close enough to Altona to fire the warheads. Kruger will lose stock value, and the Imperial party will lose voters. The Unioners will lose face, but we will, however, know who tipped the Federals off, and that the intelligence apparatus of Bretonia cannot be trusted any further.

My name is Jonas Hudson, and I work for Bretonia's Secret Intelligence Service. We've recieved and processed your message, and I've been assigned as ambassador for correspondence with your faction.

We've carefully considered what was in your message, and hope to respond appropriately. In regards to your distrust of House Intelligence agencies, I can only move to assure you that the SIS has no desire to interfere with your activities outside of Bretonia. As to attacking Bretonian transport vessels, Bretonia will always respond to any threats to our security interests, but will also follow the laws of any region where we do not have direct jurisdiction. But perhaps this is something we can negotiate a solution to.

In regards to your attack plans as outlined, if you want a tactical assessment, I would have to seek higher authorization as that may be construed as lending 'material support', which has not been approved as of this time. However, we wish to make it clear, we have no plans to interfere in your activities within Rheinland, nor that of the Rheinland Military. Having said that, we have noticed that elements within the Republic Government seem to be at the root of warming relations between Rheinland and Gallia. That is something we would like to see checked, and perhaps that is where we may find some common ground in the end. I'm sure you would understand our own stance and how compromising it could be to us to take any action in that area or enter into a deal with you. We are open to a relationship, in certain areas. Of course, we cannot take any action or lend any support that may cause damage to our allies in Liberty.

So this seems like an opportunity for a "quid pro quo", whereas perhaps we can come to a small starter deal. If the traditional Imperialists you have dealings with are opposed to pro-Gallia diplomacy, we may consider sending material support, and via your Unions may be a practical approach. Secondly, we are aware of the new connection to the Gallic borderworld system of Zurich, which now acts as a shortcut to Gallia via Rheinland (Cologne). Our scouts have reported light Unioner patrols within Zurich. We'd be willing to deal you something, if we could get intel and perhaps assistance in access to the system. In return, well, perhaps that is where you may like to chime in. How could we assist you? You know what we'll want, so what can we offer within reason? To put it frankly, as long as the Republic doesn't catch wind of it, we would be willing to help you in small ways, in return for a few small favors, and we can go from there if that is to your liking.
