Just to clarify: The limit is 2,147,483,647 Credits in total (32 bit limit), however this includes the sell value of ship and everything on that ship. You can deposit more money on a snub with low cost equipment than on a battleship with CAU8, Battleship Scanner and expensive weaponry. Unless you know what you do, never have more than 1.000.000.000 Credits on a ship.
As Sombra said, the limit is 2,147,483,647 Credits.
I use restart Ships as my Banks and quite happily store 1.9 billion on them.
You will find that somewhere above the 1.9 billions worth and the upper limit (haven't found the the cutoff point), that transferring credits, from your Bank Ship, becomes problematic, as you will get kicked every time you try to transfer credits from that Ship.
So, I would suggest that you keep the limit below this figure.
A quick way to work out the worth of your gear, approximately, is to give it a value of one third of its buy price. This make CAU VIII worth roughly 300 million.
For Ships, a rough guide is 50% of its buy worth. This makes a Battleship worth in the region of 225-300 million.

Yes. But I would still stick to the total worth being about 1.9 billion.

I would put in a Player's Request and hope the GMs will the do the required research and reimburse you.
