Hi , have played freelancer for yrs [mostly pvp servers] and never worked out how to program weapons group [ not really needed to ,see above] and it seems a must on disco, can some one point the way for me .many thx.
Inside the game (preferably in space meaning undocked) do this:
Click the F1 button on your keyboard, from here go to Options > Controls > User Interface
Inside the User Interface window, scroll down til' you see these properties:
Activate Weapons Group 1
Activate Weapons Group 2
Activate Weapons Group 3
Activate Weapons Group 4
Activate Weapons Group 5
Activate Weapons Group 6
Here are the properties to activate (meaning you make the guns/missiles "green" on the bottom right weapon window.)
So lets say you have 6 Guns, I will call them A,B,C,D,E,F
In weapons group 1, you want Guns A, B, C and D activated.
In weapons group 2, you want Guns E and F activated.
So inside the Options > Controls > User Interface window, click on "Activate Weapons Group 1" to chose which hotkey you want to use to trigger Group 1.
After that, (now you must be in space), the bottom right window which shows all your weapons, after clicking on the hotkey you have chosen for Group 1, then click on Guns: A, B, C and D to make them green.
Then you setup another hotkey for "Activate Weapons Group 2", then once again fly in space and click on the hotkey you chose to trigger Group 2. Then activate (green the weapons) in the bottom right window for Guns E and F.

Extra tip.
If you are flying a Very Heavy Fighter class vessel. The standard load out is 4 Hull Buster Guns and 2 Shield Buster Guns, along with either a Train CD / Mini-Razor / Torpedo Launcher.
It is most common to use three weapons group.
Weapons Group 1: 4 Hull Busters and 2 Shield Busters
Weapons Group 2: 4 Hull Busters
Weapons Group 3: Train CD / Mini-Razor / Torpedo Launcher
However this may vary, I go by this standard weapon group setup.
Alright, how come most of the time I sock my weapon groups get broken (the are either reset to standard or made so all the groups that had been assigned are now every weapon, or sometimes something even stranger...)
Lol, yes i meant dock, and I have noticed that but thanks for confirming my suspicions, I'll have to see if it ever happens when I so remember to switch back to group 1 first.
