Alright that makes more sense, phrasing bamboozled me a little. Yeah, I had been advocating working the standard AU into people's buy packages for awhile and it was met with "newbies will quit because they can't buy a new ship quickly enough".
And like.. you can't survey people who aren't playing the game yet? I think that's the most difficult part of doing any sort of NPE work here - we can simplify and streamline, but we can't really know what anyone prefers or not unless they're already here to tell us, in which case they're generally not new.
Can't be worse then the current NPE, which explains nothing and tells you to sign up on a forum.
The removal of the cost of a base AU basically removes the cost to do a feasible ship upgrade for new players and a bit of tedium for experienced players who might be wanting to fire up an indie for an event or something. The advanced upgrade weirdness comes with the shield mods and such, which I am slowly working on another post for.
Yeah I'd be for it. I don't think slashing the current AU down to a free item is going to trash the economy, one time money sinks are barely where any of DIscovery's money goes. I reckon the majority of that goes to nukes, novas, and capsiles.
In goods.ini it looks like about a third of the ship packages have commented out AU8s, so you could do a find and replace for ";addon = dsy_armor8, internal, 1" with a blank line and then add "addon = dsy_armor8_builtin, internal, 1" to every ship package.
e: And of course, remove, dsy_armor8 from market_misc.ini. And, uh, update balancemagic.cfg on the server so it knows that dsy_armor8_builtin is a 2.5x

IIRC, the reason they were commented out was because armour upgrades that came with ship packages had a bug that unmounted the ship's powerplant if you tried to unmount the AU. Otherwise they would be a standard part of ship packages right now.
So to get this straight. AU will simply be coded into every ship?
Does that mean you will make all AUs ingame disapear? Else you get double the bonus.
And how will it relate to CAU? will it give less bonus to compensate for the coded AU?
No he is suggesting that when you buy a ship the AU comes included in the ship package but the cost of an AU reduced so ships don’t become more expensive for new people if I am reading it correctly

That's what happened back when we tried it with Neo Terra iirc and its made me leery ever since. I know for a fact our powercore and thrust 'boosters' caused it to spazz out, I can't remember if the shield ones did or not.
lmao i thought you already know that anti cheat dont do anything even if you have multiple shield slots on your ship and also multiple shield generators that give you powercore regen bonus, shield regens, capacity even negative values.
remember we tested these stuff on your hellfire arbiter with extra 6 shield slot on it (tested on live server with multiple ships and players thanks to skorak)
ofc things changed that test happened exactly 1 year ago maybe anti cheat changed who knows.
there should be shield modules and infocards etc available in the game files if xalrok or durandal didnt remove them

Just tested by uncommenting it on a couple ship packages, and everything seems to be working fine for me. Would not be surprised if some FLHook update at some point magically fixed it. This is Freelancer, after all.

Correct.

It won't care about shield augmentations being equipped, but it definitely will care about multiple power cores, or power regen boosts on shield mods. Fortunately, I have already fixed this on my own build, but I believe my source is out of sync with the live one, as I am no longer actually a developer and thus no longer have credentials for anything.
