Hey, guys! Hamster here. I played Freelancer a few years ago and I stopped, but ever since I found out about all these new mods and player communities springing up, I decided to try out the online side of things.
I must say, it's great to see that the game still has a large fanbase.
I've been playing on discovery for a few days already and I like what I see:)though, I just took the time to study the rules more thoroughly on the forums and I have the feeling it's going to take me a bit to get used to remembering them all :$
I think it's gonna be fun RPing in the server and getting shot dow -- I mean, killing everyo -- I mean.... well, whatever I'm gonna spend my time doing:D
Anyway, nice to be here and I hope to see you all ingame!
Welcome to the server, you'll find that Freelancer is very much alive, and that the server is huge in playerbase and RP quality overall. You might meet a few bad cases, but don't get discouraged.
A lot will be confusing while starting out, asking questions here, and reading the forums a bit helps with getting yourself acquainted with it all.
I welcome you to ask for advice or help of any sort, we'll help you however we can.
And don't worry about losing fights, cause first of all fighting ain't the biggest thing here, although it's fun, and also cause you'll get a lot better with time.
Also, what I'd recommend for you, being a rookie and all, is to join one of the official player factions, as that helps with guiding you into our wonderful world here. It helped me a lot when starting, that's for sure.
Just think of what kind of character you'd like to play, what you'd like to do, and we'll give you a few suggestions.
Who knows, you might even end up becoming one of us Colonials up in the Taus.
Have fun, and see ya around.

Greetings and welcome. Joining a faction is not a horrible idea but just flying around and getting used to things isnt bad either. It's good you've read the rules but some of them cover things you wouldnt necessarily expect. If I were you I would read through the first page or two of rule violation reports to see how the rules are applied and the common mistakes people make so you can avoid them. It may seem like a hassle but it will make sure you will not end up doing anything your not supposed to and will have even more fun hopefully.
I've read the rules, been trying to obey them as best I can and all. For now, I've been exploring around. Been a lot of fun; got a freelancer ID and I'm working towards Freelancer rep through BH missions, so yeah:)
Thanks for all the advice and I hope to see you all ingame!
Good luck with your freelancing work. Don't get discouraged, just RP, and nag people to hire you.:P
Once you get the hang of it, you'll be making both tons of money, and having good RP.
