It's been quite some time since I logged anything. Hell, I think it's closing in on a year. In light of this fact, I'm going to be writing this today to signify my official parting from Disco.
I started my journey here on June 21, 2016. I'd known about the mod since 2012, but never got it (idk why). I'd always wanted to fly for Bretonia, and so that was what I set out to do. And yes, I sucked at it. Snubs weren't ever my strong point. Caps were my best asset. And playing was fun, too. After some time of dying in every combat scenario, eventually I was getting blues. That was fun. It was amazing to take part in a massive, role-playing space shoot-em'-up. Not to mention I'd been playing Freelancer since I was seven or so; the feeling of being able to actually join these factions and make a difference in things was awesome. But there were many times where I was not having fun.
There were a lot of caustic players and situations. Some of them I was involved in, a few I caused. There were a lot of nasty players out there. Although it didn't ruin the experience for me, it did lessen the joy that it brought me. Lag was a frequent issue for me (lol 180 American Ping), and it made playing tough. Constant updates to the launcher confused the hell out of me (I'm a grandpa) and I eventually lost interest as a whole. Not necessarily because of the aforementioned factors, but mainly because life. Life happened, as cheesy as it sounds.
Once my senior year started in high school, I became enthralled in it. Like, too much. I hit some real, real rough patches this year (around the time I stopped playing) (also I missed 27 days of school lol) and was even considering dropping out. The retarded drama pissed me off and stressed me out more than it should've, and the workload was forcibly cut down (I had to drop multiple classes) to give me some breathing room. I got a handle on it, but by that time I was too enthralled in my life outside of Disco that I'd lost interest in it here. I was going to write this months ago, but I didn't ever have the time to sit down and write it out.
It seemed to me that the same scenarios would play out on Disco. Events would happen, which didn't change much of the course of something. If they did, both sides would bicker and banter (yes I'd bicker too, lol don't we all) for hours and hours about how them losing was unfair. So much fairness talk. Balance. It made those battles that were supposed to be fun not fun. RP was good, however, because it took you away from all of that. It was really fun to get into your characters and to talk through them, and to see the world as they did. To create these unique people and bring them to life. That was amazing, and had practically no downsides to it. I'd rate my Disco experience an 8/10. I loved meeting new people from all across the globe and all walks of life, and RP was amazing. Battles were fun when they worked out well (people were not salty), and getting to influence my favorite childhood game was simply awesome.
But I'm afraid I've got to leave now. My life has gotten chaotic (not in a bad way; well, sometimes) and is becoming more of a priority than anything else at the current moment. Part of me wants to stay and play, but the other wants to move on and knows I have to. It's been a wild ride folks, but the ride is winding down now. The car is slowing to a stop. I'm thankful to all of the people out there who made a difference to me and in my life. I'll never forget Hamish, Kane, Jess, Reddy, Thundy, Wesker and Gaga, to name a few (honestly forgot a lot of names, forgive meh lol). Kudos to the BAF for making me feel like I had a home here, and to all the MRG/GRN peeps for blasting me to bits in every battle. I'll still be around on discord if people want to chat and stuff, but I'm gonna resign my characters here and now.
Captain Arthur James Cuttingham died valiantly defending Planet New London, his home, roughly four months ago. Abigail Elizabeth Taylor is still a part of the BMF, and is off doing whatever she does there (lol enter some form of creative job here). John Edwards Doe went missing three months ago. He went out deep into the Omicrons for some trade prospect, and his whereabouts are unknown. Johnathan James Steinbrenner died in battle against the GRN seven months ago in Tau-44 (I hope it's still a Crayter system, forgive me if it's not lol). William Luis Johnson (Bill Johnson) died on the field of battle in Leeds against the BAF in a skirmish near the New London Gate about two months ago. Flag Officer James Willemstad went rogue from the BAF was killed in battle in Tau-23 about a month ago whilst attempting to infiltrate Languedoc on his own.
Well that's all folks. See ya 'round.
P.S. Here's a link to my dumb Let's Play of Vanilla (2 years old or so). Lol my mic is ass and the sound isn't good quality till the fourth installment or so. Have fun. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7ubvTSP...hir7bCClJ3
well, this wasn't something i wanted to wake up to.
i always thought you'd return at some later date even though you have been gone for months, guess rl has been stressful.
Disco will still be here should you wish to return (i hope you do). You and thunderer are one of the first ones who i met in this place and i'm thankful for that, flying together and against each other were some of the most enjoyable things i've done and i will never forget. the fights we had in bretonia were some of the best, i regret not recording those (though you did record some).
See you in 2 weeks freeport 7
