Sometimes I think about Discovery while in the bathroom. But, it's usually just Lyth's selfies. Today it was not Lyth's selfies. It was not any kind of BBC either. I might have actually had an idea.
So, you chaps want PvP battles in the RP universe to influence the storyline. Alright. Fine. Gank each other to exhaustion if you please. But how will it count? What, only events? And disregard everything that happens when it's not an event, which is approximately pretty much most of the time? This concept needs a system. And I have taken care of the ganking as well. I will, then, outline the system here shortly, sparing you the unnecessary technicalities until I see whether this is even wanted:
Let's say the Hessians and the Rheinland Military fight a battle. One of them wins. The devs will somehow have to be notified, but the devs are very, very busy people despite not being paid (i.e. mentally distraught), and can't check every faction's message dump every day. Thus, a separate thread in the player requests subforum may have to be created, which should receive these battle reports much like SRPs. There would, of course, need to be several conditions for the battle reports to be legitimate.
1) The battle must occur in a designated war zone, which is an area of intense fighting between the two factions, where each can gain or lose something. For the Hessians and Rheinland, for example, this could be Omega-7 or Dresden, but not New Berlin and Omega-54.
2) The number of players on each side must equal or exceed 10. Let's not bother the devs with every tiny skirmish that would probably change nothing relevant anyways.
3) Important: the side submitting the request must have had an equal number of players in the battle as the other side, or fewer. This is meant to prevent gank crusades aimed to change the storyline. It is difficult to define a gank, though: is 11 against 10 a gank? Is a battleship against three fighters a gank? No, all of these are very debatable. So let's be strict here and reduce it to numbers. If you have 10 ships or more, and the opponent has the same numbers, then, whatever the classes involved, I believe most will agree that it is a battle where both sides stand a good chance.
4) To balance this for the cases where there is an imbalance in faction strength, factions that are weaker inRP will need to score more victories for them to count.
The rest, unless I forgot something important and, as I tend to, I probably have, are technicalities meant to prevent abuse. I might work on that wall of text later, but first I would like to see: do you chaps think that what I had in the bathroom was an idea, or just plain shit?
If I made someone angry with this, I am sorry, because I didn't mean to. If you are angry, I suggest you to find some of those Lyth's selfies in the "What Do You Look Like" thread. They always cheer me up.
