okay... after much trail and tribulation, I've finally managed to help my friend connect to the server.... however, we've hit a wall that I am unable to bypass... he is currently unable to create a character on the server, He can connect, but every time he attempts to create a character, the name comes back "already in use". we've tried installing and reinstalling several times already, complete ones too. It's very frustrating, it has taken us almost 3 weeks to get to this point. He currently is running off a wireless router (I don't know the model and make atm) any thoughts or ideas are welcomed
This is a problem quite a few people were mentioning lately. If it is still not working, try PMing Cannon, I believe he's been taking care of this already.

Sounds like a permissions error on the server. The folders are probably marked as read only in specific sections. This happens a lot with FTP protocols.
The admins backed up the server before installing the update obviously, so if anything was uploaded again it is not surprising this is happening.
If not that, then there are errors in the user DB.

This problem has come by my desk a few times recently - a few questions...
Are you running vista?
Are you running FL with "Run as adminstator" ticked (do this for both Freelancer.exe and DSUpdate.exe)?
Did you change any mod options when you installed the mod - in particular the default starting location?
Does any one else know why this happens - or how to fix it?

Last thing that comes to my mind is reinstalling evrything clean, and generating new MP ID.Hope it works.
EDITED:
After reinstalling the game(when uninstalling chose the option to remove all gamedata ),activating the mod with default settings(didnt changed a thing) and generating new MP ID(it goes by itself) i`m able to create a new char.

I've inspected the FL installations of a couple people who have this problem. The common theme was that they have installed FL with the FLMM mod option "Server: Select starting location for new server characters" changed from the default. This is a known problem and if you change it then you won't be able to create new characters.
To fix this:
Deactivate the mod by restoring backups and then reactivate the mod. When reactivating it don't change any of the "Server" options - in particular this "Server: Select starting location for new server characters" - leave this as the default (actually I think it is safe to change every other option except this one).
If this doesn't work - reinstall FL and repeat.
