nah, it takes way longer unless you know perfectly well where to get ore from and where to run it.
From scratch, no knowledge of current meta and trade routes, i used 10 hours, from a Sunburst to a Junker Wrecker (31m).
I had no clue where to buy ore, where to run it, etc.
Sure, i could ask around, and i think i could have gotten further, faster, if i had found a good ore run to do.
But at best, from scratch, brand new player, no knowledge of game, i'd say you need about 7 hours to get a Firefly (39m) 3600 Cargo. From there, you'll easily amass the remaining 120m needed for a 5k'er in just under 3-4 hours of ore running.
Reading about the Helium thing with the buoys in Pennsylvania might've helped.
I understand that this was about a month ago but I just came across this and as a new player I just couldn't help myself.
The cheapest 5ker according to DSCore is the Zoner Transport at 130,000,000. If there is a cheaper one then apologies and disregard.
The time it takes to fill the starter ship (Sunburst) with helium, run to Philly station, sell and then run back to the starting points took me 4.5 minutes. (I did a test run a while back to compare it to another run).
So.
939 (sell price of helium at Philly station x 540 (Hold size) = 507,060 per turn around.
130,000,000 / 507,060 = 256.379 etc rounded up to 257 for extra cash. So that's 257 station visits.
If death from boredom hasn't occurred yet then 257 x 4.5 = 1156.5 minutes / 60 = 19.275 hours.
To make the cash I needed for a shiny Serenity I realized I would have to do around 76 trips.
So I ran the helium to Canterbury station and then Plastics from Planet New London back to Planet Erie for around 4.1 mill sc per 30 min turn around. After 5 hours (longer really because I went sight seeing ) I had myself a brand new shiny Serenity with enough cash left to get her some basic equipment and fill her hold with goodies. Risky because of pirates i know, but I got lucky and it was a lot less boring.
