Is it possible? Or is Freelancer incompatible with new stuff (Quad Core and such)?
I'm just wondering cause well, with 4.85 out and the massive amount of people...
Freelancer Server programming does not allow multiple proc. cores, so only one can be used.
The server's proc. is very overclocked, and pushing the limits.
No, it's not possible, it'd cause immense server instability.
If we one day got the source code, or someone programmed another FLServer program out of scratch, we could.
Empty bubbles of hope..

You just said it's not possible though it technically is but the immense instability. heh
Though yes one day I do wish it to be much larger.
I thought that the server program just couldn't handle more than 200 players, no matter how much power it had to utilize, it just wasnt designed to organize information to support that many players. Oh, and no offense, but this is the third one of these threads i've seen this month.
Has anyone considered asking for donations for a second server.
And then splitting the mod in two - with a program to 'port' players between the relevant entry/exit points?
Pros:
More slots for players.
More room for expansion of the map of Sirius (or even an entirely new sector of space).
Cons:
Requires donations and bandwidth for a second server.
Doubles development and admin requirements.
Large initial development setup and readjustment.
In theory there is no limit to the number of servers one could have - only a limit to the players on any one server. I have seen games like Neverwinter Nights do this (the game did however, have a specific script ability to do this).
