It's been a damn long time since I logged into these forums.
I'm considering jumping back in and testing the waters again.
It's been over a decade since a friend of mine introduced me to Discovery mod. I remember being absolutely enamoured with it.
The fact that I could take command of my own ship, fly it around Sirius, make my own destiny.
Every new encounter, ship, system and planet having me wide-eyed... man- oh- man....
I still remember my first Hegemon, my friend had a couple of weeks of time ahead of me, and he fronted me a lot of the initial cost of getting it set up. I'd been using tiny little transports up until then, and I felt like a king.
We would spend hours, every weekend, canvassing the silver ore fields around Pennsylvania, whatever that Zoner station was. We'd have to wait for a slot to get on to the server, with it's maximum being around 250, and almost always full.
Once we were on, it was a game of cat and mouse, avoiding Rouge gunboats and Barghests while we mined enough ore to fill the cargo holds for our trip to Kusari. The promise of astronomical profits driving us onwards.
I distinctly remember having my eyes darting back and forth between the floating pieces of rock, and the scanner, waiting for any contact to appear, with even the slightest appearance of someone who could be considered a threat being enough cause for us to smash our engines into cruise and head for the deepest possible depths of the solar system.
When we eventually managed to mine a transport and mining ship's worth of cargo, we would take it to the point of docking, and logging onto our exploration accounts. We had worked out when the server was quietest, and planned our dangerous voyage through to Kusari.
Palms sweaty, heart racing, checking the "long range scanner," speculating based off of names who could be a threat to our precious cargo.
Having our first encounters with the Hogosha, and seeing how the KNP were sometimes indifferent to helping us, running, fighting, trying to out-think our pursuers. and dodge the hail of cruise disruptors speeding toward us. Our focus solely on reaching the shipyard.
Finally pulling that off, an almost 50mil payoff. As a new player? Absolute bliss.
I bought my first Zoner gunboat, slapped some turrets on it, and proceeded to try and turn-fight bombers because I didn't know any better.
What. A. Game.
To date, some of the best hours of gaming I've ever experienced.
I've got myself excited just remembering that. Time to get a gunboat again. Wow.
Anyway, I wanted to ask those who now populate the server about their experience. What's it like these days, how active is the server, what's the current meta.
But most importantly, is it worth strapping back in for another thruster-depleted adventure?
To those who may remember, I've played under [HF]-Salt, LNS-Lake.Erie (Liberty Dread) , LNS-Assault-4, and so many other characters that even I've forgotten their names.
Definitely worth coming back man! I have been here little over coupl of weeks complete newbie, and i have had more than enough positive experiences to keep me interested! While the negatives are there but mainly it's just player hate which you can overlook as petit and pointless !
The server population while small does get up to over 100 at times of peak and little as 30 at lowest peak though i am UK so i am always mid peak and still get a lot of good interaction!

That's because of Corona I think. Server activity was usually down to 6 players minimum to 70-80ish max.
