Hi guys i'm very new to this server and mod and i'm just wondering whether or not the AI is supposed to be easy or whether i need to change some settings?
I have 10 plus AI against me and they don't even dent my shields...
The NPCs in some areas are very weak, and in others very strong. It's a matter of how the mod and server are configured, not something that can be adjusted on your computer.
A way a lone a last a loved a long the riverrun, past Eve and Adam's, from swerve of shore to bend of bay,
brings us by a commodius vicus of recirculation back to Howth Castle and Environs.
Patrol NPCs have historically been *really* weak. We'd like to improve them but it's a huge amount of work so there's probably at some point going to be a patch that has that as a main feature.
Difficult NPCs can be found in the edge worlds, or by doing missions where the base reward is around 500k to 1 million credits. The higher you go in that range though the more possible it is you might get gunboats dropped on you, so, good luck.
The only AI out in the open world that can threaten you are the capital ship patrols and their escorts. Every other AI will be easy as hell to kill with only slight variations given the hitbox of the particular ship they use.
If you want challenge, do as the other suggested and try higher level missions.
no, something is abnormally worse about the patrol AI.. yes... normally in the house systems they were rather weak but I just played a solo run of HD vanilla freelancer and the AI atleast look like they are trying and actually manage to shoot you.. and actually have patrol paths and fight each other.. the ones in discovery look like they are having strokes and dont even fire at you or other npcs alot of the time.. something has drowned their AI THEN certain NPCs are set on ultra god mode.. with laser accuracy... unlimited energy..
Old thread, but this was my experience as a 2023 noob as well.
I don't think this is a high priority issue that needs attention, but the first impression can be off-putting for some.
The AI aggressiveness for lowest-bounty NPCs feels a bit undertuned compared to vanilla Freelancer and some other popular mods. They take very long to engage passing ships and are unusually lethargic during dogfights. This applies even to nomads out in the Omicrons. NPCs in the ~100k bounty bracket feel like the normal minimum.
But!
Once you get in the ~0.5M bounty range, NPC snubcraft start moving seriously and provide challenging fun fights, at least for someone who hasn't played Freelancer in ages. And they aren't completely limited to missions it seems, I was pleasantly surprised to have an in-house trade lane pirated by NPCs that put up a fight.
A small issue related to the weak low level NPCs is that they also tend to run away even from the beginner restart ship. I assume this is due to the bloat to player rank and/or equipment value. Silly to see NPCs in Pennsylvia dropping vanilla guns worth 1k, when all the normal mod guns are valued 2 orders of magnitude higher. Eh, gives new players a reason to test CDs in a PVE environment I guess.

It's based on the levels mind you, 15, 16, 17 might go all evasive, while 19 and upwards will actually engage.
These higher levels will spawn in certain areas, or in missions/npc battlezones. Environmental npcs were nerfed because of disturbance to rp environment
