I have about 4-5k hours in Elite, half of it in PvP.
Game is worth the cash, also, they will soon merge base game with horizons DLC, so people need to only buy odyssey DLC next year.
Odyssey adds FPS gameplay along side the usual ship gameplay.
But as said before, learning curve is very very steep. It's basically a cliff x)
Yes, horizons are merged already.
Pay to Win impossible in elite at all, since you cant anyhow engineer ship for real muneyz. Tbh, in elite you cant even just transfer money from one acc on another, and need do it through commodity ( what sucks). That one of some its junky things in MP. Arx used for cosmetical things to make your ship and rest shit fancy.
About learning curve..i have feels that it rather not so about game itself, rather about genre. Its just old-style joystick oriented flight sim and if you fine with such, you wont have problems in this one either.
That btw important to keep in mind - whatever ED devs saying, its still oldschool flight sim in space. No less, no more. You either like this, either not.
I remember spending uncountable hours with Frontier: Elite II. I grabbed the Epic copy of Elite Dangerous and am currently giving it a try. Will see how it holds up to my memories of F:EII.
