The Marshall Earp was moored on the station as Doc entered through the airlock. He was cursing in Latin.
"Bad day, Doc?" asked the loadmaster.
"Yeah," he replied, "an asteroid just took out my sensor array about 10K from here and my camera. You have time to replace it?"
"Sure thing, Doc." replied the loadmaster
"Delightful!" he answered, "Now I am stuck on this awful station.
Doc never liked Barrier Gate. He avoided it. He also never went in without his guns. The bar was doable but the lower levels were where only those addicted to cardamine would go. Prostitution was also a problem but saying "no" wasn't difficult for a man like Doc. With his ship broke and a couple of hours to kill, he pulled his robes over his guns and headed to the bar.
"Scotch," he said to the barkeep. For the moment, the barkeep pretended not to know Doc but in truth, he knew him well. They started with casual conversation.
"So how's the new facility?" he asked of Doc.
"It is going well," he answered taking a sip of his Scotch. He then swirled it's contents, watched them spin and said as he looked, "quality stuff. So, anything going on I should know about?"
The barkeep gave a single nod, "Just one." He then spoke a code in Latin tongue. "Earlier a young lady docked and then passed out. If I left her out here, she would have long been put onto a slave ship or taken advantage of."
He then looked around to see who was watching. No one was. "Doc, she's pretty beat up and needs help but not here. Her ship is docked in bay 4E."
"Very well," replied Doc. "I will check her out." He finished his drink but didn't leave for the room for a short so as to not look conspicuous. Eventually, he found his way there and entered the given code.
The door opened. Once through, it closed behind him. On the bed was the before mentioned young woman. She was asleep in the bed with a cat nestled into her side. Pulling back the blanket a little, it was clear that she had been badly beaten. One eye was black, the other red all around it and the one eye itself was bloodshot. Her mouth had a dribble of blood coming from it and upon further inspection, her teeth were bleeding.
"Dear God," Doc replied. He studied her a bit more. It appeared she had a bad concussion but he couldn't tell with her asleep which was bad enough in and of itself.
"Miss," he said to her as she gently nudged her, "I am a doctor, you need to wake up." He made several tries at doing this only getting a stir from her.
"Miss," he said again only louder and nudging her more sharply.
as the Strange man entered the Room the Cat looked up. she had Begged her Twinsoul to not leave her but she could Feel how her Life Slides away more with every Second. she was so alone what should she do without her Twinsoul, she Desperately Looked at the Stranger and Meowed. she begged him to help her Twinsoul and Licked the Blood from her Face. she Wished that she wasn't so Useless, and Meowed at the Stranger saying "Please Please help her, she is everything I have I don't want to lose her." the Cat said in her Meowing Language. she knew Humans could Not understand her but she was desperate and had to Try anything to Safe her Twinsoul.
the woman Floated in a thick Darkness she had no idea where or who she was. it didn't matter, she was alone, and somehow it was Tempting just to Stay here and enjoy that Peace. but from time to time she hears Noises like the Meow of a Cat, it sounds Sad and Desperate and she felt like it was because of her. then after what felt like an eternity, there was a new Sound a Voice that Begged her to Wake up. it made her realize that she couldn't stay here so she Tryed to Follow that Voice, but she couldn't Grab it and then she felt Something like a Touch. it was Smal and Gentle at First but it helped her to Orientate in the Darkness, and as he Touched her Stronger she Could Grab this like a Rope and be pulled out of the Darkness.
She opened her eyes but all she saw was a Red Fog, she heard the Meow of here Companion and saw a Stranger Sitting at her bed and Examine her. she became Fear and tried to Crawl away from him but her Boddy didn't Respond, so she did the only thing that seemed Important right now. it was only 3 words, "I am Free." she didn't know why but it was important to her that she told Him that. but she paid for that soon as her head Started to Hurt Again and she Drifts back towards the Darkness. she knew that she would not wake up this time if she goes back to the Peaceful Darkness, she felt her Companion at her Side and somehow that Gave her the Strenght to barely stay awake.

Barrier Gate Station, Coronado System
She was trying to come around but had no strength to do so. Life was running short for her and Doc knew it. He could treat her but not hear. Even then he wondered if she would make even the short trip to Baffin. He took out his bioscanner and started going over her. Blood loss was significant and she had several minor fractures to include a broken orbital bone by her right eye. He couldn't let her go back to sleep, not now. For the moment, the cat was but an afterthought. Stepping away, he called the barkeep.
"How long before my ship is fixed?" he asked.
"A couple more hours," the barkeep replied.
"I do not have that," replied Doc, "just have the sensor array replaced and get your butt to my location. I need to get her out of here now."
While he waited, he gave her a mild stimulant. It was enough to keep her awake but not enough to get her to her feet or even resist. When eyes opened, he saw redness and lots of it. Using an autosuture, he closed a deep cut on her forehead. He spoke softly as he worked.
"My name is Dr. John Holliday, founder of Med Force Enterprises. You, young lady, will be OK once I get you off of this awful place."
The more he examined, the more he realized how bad she was. For the blood loss she had, she had few wounds externally. Internal bleeding was slow but present and he was in no place to stop it. He had to get her to Baffin. When the barkeep arrived, he brought a security guard to help. Together, they carried her on a stretcher to Doc's ship. She had enough sense to know she was moving but where she had no clue. For the moment, she couldn't sleep. Little did she know how good a thing that was right now.
Doc carried the cat. He wasn't too good with animals but he supported it against his chest and smiled. "It is alright, Kitty. I will take care of you too." He stroked it's back while he spoke.
Within a few minutes, she was on his ship.
"The array will get you back, Sir," said the mechanic.
"Thank you my good man," Doc replied. In his payment, he gave a generous tip. "Can you fly?"
"Yes, Sir," he answered.
"Good. I need to tend to this woman. Fly my ship to Med Force General in Baffin and I will have one of my men fly you back." The loadmaster nodded his approval.
With that, the ship left Barrier Gate and was bound for Baffin. With it was a security escort to keep the many pirates away.
The Woman was in Fear and near a Panic as the Man Started to Treat her Wounds, but after a while, she realized that he wanted to help her and she Calmed a bit. she tried to Concentrate so that she could talk with him but her Pain was too Strong for that, all she could do was moan in pain. she looked at her side and there was her Companion, her presence gave her Comfort and made a light smile on her face. what was her name again? she couldn't remember it, but she knew that this animal was her Only Friend in this World.
The Cat watched every Touch and every action Doc Holiday did, she allowed him to Help her Twinsoul because she was convinced that he was a Good Human. he was Different from the other one, she never Liked the Human that had Hurt her Twinsoul. she had never Understand why her Twinsoul stayed with him when all she got from him was Pain and Abuse. how often did she had Begged her Twinsoul to Leave him, how Often did she Jump at him to Defend her Twinsoul, it must be Countless Times over the Years. but then the one her Twinsoul had Called "Husband" took a step too far, for the First time her Twinsoul had Fought back. and she had won that Fight, she was Stronger than him. she Rubbed her head at those of her Twinsoul that her Pelt got all Bloody didn't matter as she Purred to give her Twinsoul as much strength as she could.
the Woman felt better as she got the Stim from the Doc the Fog of Pain in her head had retreated a bit and she was able to see more Clearly. she still heard his voice as if it would come from far away, she liked the sound of his voice there was a Light accent in it that she liked. "Thank you." her voice was almost a Wisper as she Gathered the Strength to Speak. she looked at her Companion and saw all the Blood in her Pelt she knew it looked bad for her as the men arrived and carried her to the Ship.
the Cat allowed Doc to take her in his arms she was too weak to Protest and she worried too much about her Twinsoul. she watched every movement the Men did as they Carried her Twinsoul to the Ship and Meowed at Doc "Pleas you smell like a good man, please save my Twinsoul. I beg you." the Cat sounded Desperate and her eyes never left her Twinsoul.
as the Woman was in the Ship and alone with Doc she Grabbed his hand and looked directly into his eyes as she Coughed some Blood, but she had something important to tell him. "if I Die Please find a good Home for Niki, I beg you be good to her. she was always by my side, she was the only one that was always there for me." her Voice was just a Weak whisper as her hand slides from his arm. she had used a lot of Power for this Wish, but now she haves a Smile on her face as she knows the name of her Cat again.

Cargo Bay, Marshall Earp, Somewhere In Baffin Space
He just gave a smirk to the woman. "Not on my watch," he told her in regards to her dying. The stimulant was doing its job keeping her at least a little bit conscious. While the trip from Barrier Gate to Med Force General was relatively short, it seemed to take forever considering the circumstances. His concern was her blood loss and that he had no blood supply on his ship. She needed some and neither he or the pilot were compatible. He did have an IV of fluids but she needed more. Her vitals were weak but steady. As he studied her more, her shallow breathing captured his attention. Her current state wouldn't allow her to give good answers so he had to rely on instinct.
Making an adjustment on his bio-scanner, he deep scanned her chest. "I will be damned," he said to himself. One of her floating ribs had pierced her left lung, collapsing it. Her weakened state wouldn't have revealed it. Had she been more conscious, more able, it would have. There was bleeding in her chest cavity and he had to drain it. Doc knew his ship. He knew it was going as fast as it could and that she needed emergency surgery. In his mind, he was wondering if the Not on my watch statement was premature. First, he took a length of plastic tube from his medical bag and a needle. He rolled her up enough to get access to her back where he inserted the needle at a low point. He repositioned her so that the tube would hang free and the needle wouldn't hurt her. Sure enough, blood flowed through the tube where he placed a container to catch it. If nothing else, he bought her some time.
Next, he contacted Med Force General and spoke to the head surgeon in charge, Dr. Brandt. "Have a room in the OR ready to go. I am sending you a file now."
Even Dr. Brandt had his doubts saying that he would have a crash cart ready. It was agreed that together, the two men would work on her.
Finally, the flight was over as the ship docked at Med Force General. A team took took the gurney to the room that was prepped for surgery while the head nurse, Michelle, took the cat to her quarters. She was weak but alive and the team began its work.
the Woman felt that this man was her Last Chance, and she knew that he was Desperate to Safe her. she had no idea why but she was Thankful to him. she drifted away more and more Often as the ship came near its Destination, she had seen the Doubt in his eyes. she used a lot of her Strength to Touch her Cat, she knew that this would be hard for her little Companion. as the Ship landed and she was Brought to the Surgery Room she Grabbed his hand again "Promise it, Promise me you take Care of Niki. Promise me you will find a good home for her." her voice was nothing more than a whisper and some Tears run down her cheeks but her eyes showed her determination. she holds his Hand as Strong as she can, till someone gave her a Narcosis.
Niki was taken Care of by a Nurse that Washed the Blood out of her Pelt, and even when she normally enjoyed a Shower she couldn't this time. her Thoughts were all around her Twinsoul as she Scanned the Room for an opportunity to escape and reach her Twinsoul. and then she found it a Window over the Door was open, she Scratched the Nurse and Jumped on a Shelf and then out of the Room. she Sniffed all around while she Runs through the Station escaping from Every Nurse and Doctor that Tryed to Catch her. and then she finally found a Trace of her Twinsoul and Followed her, she Reached a Balcony Over the Surgery Area. she pressed her nose against the Glas and Watched the Humans that try to save her Twinsoul, while she made sounds that almost sounds like she would Cry.
the Woman was in the Dark again she Floated around in this weird place, but this time there was something she saw Pieces and Pictures Flashing here and there. on some she saw herself on others she saw People that seemed Familiar but unknown to her. she knew that she was on a Surgery Table and that Peapole Tryed to Safe her Life, but her only Worry was about her Little Kitty. did the Doctor gave her his Word, would he Make sure that her Companion would have a Good Life if she Died? she didn't know but he had seemed like a good man, she Hoped he would Help Niki. a new Picture flashed into her Mind it was another man Standing in front of her, he was Drunk and Angry and then his Fist hit her and the Picture disappeared like Smoke in the Wind.

Operating Room 2, Med Force General and Research, Baffin
"Niki is being well taken care of," he said to her as he pulled his mask over his face. He then looked up, "Start three units of O blood and put her under." Those would be the last words they would speak to each other for a few days.
"Her vitals are weak but she's steady, Doctor," said the nurse. Both Doc and his assisting physician, Dr. Brandt, were going over her body. A portable x-ray unit was brought in. While she received the much needed blood, they examined.
"Doc," said a troubled Dr. Brandt, "whoever did this to her was a very strong person."
"No doubt," replied Doc.
Bruising was present about her body. Her right hand indicated a struggle with tissue and blood under her nails. The broken phalanges also indicated she landed a good punch or two of her own. She was probably so drained that she didn't even know it or feel any pain from it. Also not found until now was a deep laceration across her lower stomach. Doc started removing glass shards from it, the same type of glass shards that Dr. Brandt was removing from her scalp.
"Bastard broke a bottle over her head and then took a few swipes at her with what was left," stated Brandt.
"Yes, I smell whiskey," added Doc. He then sighed, more concerned about saving her than he was how she got that way.
Once she had enough blood going through her, he cut into where the floating rib was stuck into her lung. What he removed was a rib in about three pieces. The lung was then stitched and re-inflated.
A few other ribs were cracked but not broken. Dr. Brandt worked the head trauma as he worked to reset the broken orbital bone in her right eye. The two men worked at a good pace but to their surprise, she was holding steady. Most of the damage was bruising, a lot of it deep tissue bruising. She would be sore for a long while for sure. It took six units of blood but she was stabilizing.
"I am keeping her under," stated Doc. "Sleep will help her heal."
He then looked to where a cat was now sleeping against the O.R. glass.
"A drink, Doc?" asked Brandt after a successful surgery.
"Shortly," he replied, "I have another patient to tend to."
He washed up, removed his smocks and instructed the nurses to clean up the patient and keep him posted before going out to the cat.
He leaned over it and stroked it before picking it up. "She will need time to rest, Niki. For now, you will stay in my quarters." He gently carried her there and gave her a saucer of warm milk.
For a moment, he sat back. He was satisfied that he had saved another patient. Now it was time for the healing process.
The Woman Sleep for a Long Time. while she was out Niki Stayed at Doc's Place, or at least that's what he wanted. Niki had Other Plans at Every Opportunity she Escaped and Runs to her Twinsoul, she was a Master of Breaking in and out of Rooms now and Sleeps most times Cuddled at her Twinsoul. Niki Could Feel that she was Getting Stronger Again with each day. Doc Holiday came by every day and looked after her and every time he did he saw Niki at the Side of the Woman. she often Purred of Meowed in the Hope her Twinsoul would hear it or that it would give her strength and helps her with healing.
the Woman Sleeps for 2 Whole Weeks while She Floated in the Darkness and sees some Pictures of her Past Flicker, she sees the Last Fight With her Husband and how she had Fight Back for the First time and Punched him. he had Tryed to Kick Niki and that was too much for her, she had Fought back and Realized what a Monster he was. he had taken one of the Cheap Whisky Bottles and had Hit her with that, and she had Punched him as hard as she could. in the end, he was tripped over the Broken Bottle and had Fallen backward over the Couch and Broke his Neck. Next Pictures showed herself as she Stumbled Trough the Station and into the Ship she inherited from her grandmother and Fleed.
As she opened her eyes she saw Niki by her Side Cuddled at her and Purring, she touched her with her hand and Carresed her a bit. the movement felt tough and cost her some Powers but it was important for her to touch her Companion. she was Rewarded with a Happy Meow and a Stronger Purring. as the Woman looked around she saw that she was alone in the Room, Various Medical Devices were around her and she had Needles and Tubes in her body. she wonders what would happen with her now as the Door Opened and a Nurse entered the Room "Niki did you sneaked in, here again, you Naughty Kitty......." the Nurse had a Smile on her face but as she saw that the Woman was awake she Runs out of the Room immediately to Inform Doc Holliday about it.

Patient Recovery Room 4, Med Force General and Research, Baffin
For two weeks the woman slept to allow her body time to recover. With nurse Michelle at his side, he entered the room to see his patient conscious. Still, she was weak and would be for some time. He stood next to her and put his hand on the rail of her bed. Looking at Niki, he shook his head a little. "That cat has been nothing but a pain but......." He nodded a little, "She has been a loyal friend. So long as she stays away from the equipment I will allow her to stay here."
He then turned to Michelle, "Would you mind getting a large pillow and some cat stuff."
"Yes, Doctor," she then turned to go get what was requested.
He then took her left wrist and checked her pulse. Gently putting it down after a minute, he then started listening to her heart being careful to not touch healing wounds on her chest. With a sigh, he took a seat beside her. "Welcome back. You arrived here two weeks ago. You are on Med Force General and Research in the Baffin system. No one will find you here, not unless you want them to."
He was examining her. The facial bruising had mostly cleared up except where her orbital bone had been fixed. It was still sore to the touch.
"Yes, you are healing slowly but nicely."
He leaned on the rail a little and smiled upon her. "My name is Dr. Holliday. My counterpart, Dr. Brandt, will visit you soon. "
He looked at the cat again and gave a snicker, "I wish I had a friend that loyal or even a woman that dedicated to me."
He then looked back at her, the smile running from his face. As Michelle re-entered the room, he began to touch the varying spots on her body that had been cut or smashed. He then motioned for Michelle to sit across from him.
"You kept on saying that you were free. Would you like to talk about that? That is, if you feel up to it.?"
