In my desperation to make contact with a real life human being out on the fringes of Space, I've moved from the X3 Universe to the Sirius System, although I never really heavily got into FL, this Discovery Mod has probably just changed that ...
I am new when it comes to Freelancer, I don't know all the ropes, or factions, other than Green Good, Red Bad. I Usually stick to the American/British/Japanese Sectors, or I suppose.. Bretonia, Liberty and Kusari...
Some of you I've already come across in the trade lanes!, or waiting behind as you move through a gate, or even mysteriously ending up in the same spots, stop following me, I'm poor! Even an encounter with a pirate who wanted my last $300,000, Gave him the slip through 2 sectors though :nono:
So far my time on the server has been a blast, hope for many more hours of fun!
While I always found X3 to be very advanced (technologically) and detailed, I find Freelancer to be much faster paced, and with Disco Mod it's even better. Especially on the multiplayer with such a great community behind it.
I hope you enjoy your time on the server here, and I hope I see you in space soon.
I'm a player and a big fan of x2 and x3, particulalry with the amount of scripts available to make the game so complex. Discovery lacks that complexity in terms of in-game mechanics. However Discovery has a whole community of players to counter that, and every session in game is only limited by players' imaginations...which can a problem sometimes...but more of that later.
The new version of the mod has a combat balance that is similar to x3 - capital ships are not superships athat are immune to everything - they are vulnerable to organised groups of smaller craft. Flying with a wingman is heaps of fun.
Play, explore, have fun. Join a faction. Or don't. Join many. There is no ban on being in many factions, Disco is the faction.
You can do roleplay stuff in the forums that you can't do in game so explore those too. And don't get put off by people who complain about things.
And join the Bounty Hunters Guild and Guild Core. (shameless plug)
Thanks for the greets:) For now I'm sticking to trading, Can't do too much if ya don't have funds... No fun without fund? Got a nice 501Cargo ship for 2 and a half Mil and ever since Haven't had issues with taking any number of the same NPCs that wreaked havoc on my poor Rhino, From there I guess it's onto Exploring and Gaining Rep with certain factions, Exploring should wait for a larger ship though, jumping into Omega 56 with a Rhino was not pleasant
Welcome aboard! Please enjoy yourself while your here. A few tips to get you started...
1. People will tell you to join their factions, there's no doubt about that. Whether you chose to accept their invitation or not is entirely up to you. Playing in a faction can be great fun at times, but every once in a while you just got to go solo for a bit.
2. Ever see anyone smack talking out of character in system chat? Instead of just openly stating in-system ti "knock it off," PM a friendly reminder that this is a Role Playing server. If they act like a jerk towards you, or if they say they "don't care" (In which case you should consider reporting them for ooRP behavior), then just ignore them. Don't stoop down to their level and start screaming at them. It could end up as a sanction report filed against you.
3. Discovery is a Role Playing server. Therefore, certain things should not be said in public chat. For example, "smilies" and "lol's" are no-no's, unless you are in a group chat and the group has agreed that the chat is casual, meaning out of character. Don't use "//" in system chat to throw up a quick "=P." It sets a bad example for the newer players, which will cause them to think that it's okay to do what you are doing, which causes a chain reaction that can lead to disaster.
4. Find the ship that's right for you. Every ship in the game has different "characteristics" to it that makes each and every one of them unique. First, decide whether you want a Light, Heavy, or Very Heavy Fighter. Next, see which one is right for you by testing out each one's power plant (the yellow energy bar for your ship), maneuverability, and armor. Next, find a weapons setup that works for you. Do you want to be able to hit your target for heavy damage, or more often, with less powerful shots? As a final note, don't feel you are restricted to just fighters, for there are capital ships in the game. These ships, however, are quite expensive, and just because the ship's stats say it is 50 times more powerful than a fighter, don't let yourself think you can beat everyone with ease. Two Very Heavy Fighters with the right weaponry can eventually down a gunboat. Cruisers and battleships are a quick way to get noticed; most of the time as someone who wants to win at a PvP all of the time. You must be careful with your actions in these ships, because things you got away with doing unnoticed in a fighter won't be so avoidable in the larger warships.
This handy little guide is for when you want to buy a capital ship. Should you choose to read it, it should help you in your decision of "should I buy a gunboat?"
Well, that's my handy tips for you! Again, please enjoy your time here at discovery. We are chalk full of people who want to help in any way possible, and we have some of the best administrator/moderator staff that I've seen for any game.
As one final note: If you see someone in-game by the name of Mon'star: Run! He will eat your face and use your bones as a throne to seat his rear in! Avoid him unless you are piloting a bomber along with 2-3 other people. He's a terrorist in his very own custom cruiser, and he's written about 7 pages just to obtain said ship. Now that's what I call dedication..
