HELP NEEDED :

Please help me out here. I am trying to connect to the server for over a week now. I'm getting pretty lost here.

I have a vista laptop, requirements are met for Freelancer.
I use Bitdefender Internet Security.
I installed FREELANCER form an original CD
I installed the MOD and have the right version
I can start FREELANCER and play the single player mode
When i go to multiplayer mode i can see the server in the list (correct version).
When i click it, i get following message :

:rtfm:"I'm sorry, but the connection could not be established to the server. This is usually caused by a server going offline when you attempt to connect to it. It may also be caused by internet problems. Please try again later."

I have to withhold myself from not smashing my screen, every time i see this freaking message.

I play other online games and they work just fine.

Ahhh Vista, dont you just love it!!!!

I dont know if Bitdefender will let you play FL online. Many Antivirus software doesnt. Im using Avira and that lets me connect just fine.

The server may be full when you're trying to connect, check how many players are on and if it's full either keep trying or wait until there are fewer players.

just to define full, full means 198/200 since one space is needed for FLhook and another is needed for emergency admin access

As for open SP not working, set your starting location to a vanilla system, for some reason starting in a 4.85 system is glitched.

Can you give me some more info please? Only vanilla i know is ice cream :/

The server wasn't full by the way. Not even 60 / 200 players

Vanilla Freelancer=Original, Unmodded Freelancer.

As for your connection, I would recommend checking your internet connection. If there's nothing wrong, I would say that it's your antivirus. I'd try using avast! antivirus.

Ok, but i never started a game yet, so i guess we all start at the default place in ... what is it, Manhattan if i remember right ?

I never got on any server what so ever. In the past with my desktop (dont have it anymore) i managed to get online. It had Windows XP, not freakin Vista.
