I have been wondering for Quite some time, why no one has ever made a Refinery Ship or Refinery POB Base.
The Refinery Ship or base would Smelt down Raw Metals and convert them to refined Metals. Raw Mined Metals would sell to the Refinery at one Price and sell Refined Metals at a Higher Price.
Works Simple:
Miners would dock and sell there Raw Metals and Transports would Buy Refined Metals from the Refinery POB or Refinery ship. Something smaller than the barge would have to be used. Barge is just to dang big and to unstable to use!
now the Cost of the Refined Metals would have to be raised, and or Adjusted.
Here are my Thoughts on Refinery's
The Refinery Ship or base would have Designated Slots for Smelters. 2 per level of base and they would convert the Ore to Refined Metals etc. These slots would not count towards the standard Slot count of a base standard needs. Each Smelter would be Built at a POB Base. and could be used on a Base or be mounted on a Ship with a slot for a Smelter. (I would recommend 2 types of Smelters, One virtual for POB's and one physical to be mounted on Ships that would show up in Inventory) the More Smelters the Faster a Refinery would Convert the Raw Metals. Or have a Refinery Base be made by Dev Team, and People could have there bases Replaced with the new Refinery POB, But having Dev's make a new Type of Deploy-able Refinery base just for miners to use would be outstanding. adds a Whole new Dynamic to Mining in Freelancer. and for once, a POB could make money on it's own.
I do not really see any Drawbacks on this Idea. but it would keep Dev team Busy for a bit. Thanks Dev Team for any help
Mechanics of Refinery
I think the same way a base Repairs can be used to convert Ore to Refined Metals.
Aluminum cost works like this
So Aluminum Refining rate 5 to 1. works like this
1. Refinery Base in Frankfurt Buys Aluminum Ore at Refinery for lets say 3,000 Per unit,
2. Refinery Base in Frankfurt Sells Refined Aluminum at a 15,000 per unit 5 times what the Ore was worth.
3. Planet New London Buys Refined Aluminum at 75,000,000 per unit, 109,940,000 per 5k this is still the same Profit they are making now, But has added a whole new Dynamic to the game.
4. Profit per unit 6,988 per unit that's 34,940,000 per load
Refinery Modulates.

Refining rate Governs what sell Price at a base is worth
1. the only Thing to figure out is what Conversion ratio items convert at, for example Lets say Gold has a Refining rate of 4 to 1, 4 Gold Ore to one Refined Gold Unit.
2. Refining rate lets say from Ice to Water 3 to 2

But the main thing is there has to be Profit in it, so the Refined metals would have to go up Quite a bit no less than 2x in Price maybe 3x or more maybe ? this is a Discussion...
Personally I would like to have a POB that could make cash on it's own for once, can I get a Amen on this .

The idea of Refineries or Factory POB's has been considered and discussed, its a great idea and could add some interest and new gameplay but requires making changes to the source code of the POB plugin, a department we are sorely lacking atm.
