An Introduction

Arin Dixon is a 30-year-old Avenger pilot for the Liberty Navy who enjoys jigsaw puzzles, working on her ship, affectionately named “June” after her mother, and hockey. She is intelligent and reliable, but can also be very pessimistic and a bit grumpy.

Born on Planet New York to Liberty born Edward, a now retired navy analyst, and Britonian June, Arin was raised by her father, after her mother died when she was young. Arin moved from based to base with her father, never staying anywhere long enough to settle and make friends. Mostly self-schooled due to the lack of consistent education, Arin attended her higher education at the Erie Academy, Pennsylvania where she started studying philosophy, politics and economics at college but never finished the course due to her obsession with tinkering with an old Starflyer her father bought her when she got her pilots licence.

After eventually dropping out of college, Arin joined Interspace Commerce aged 20 who she flew with as a Transport Escort for 5 years, before enlisting with the Liberty Navy as a pilot, where she has excelled with the practical side of flying, but has always slacked off when it comes to the politics of naval life, and as a result she is yet progressed to the higher ranks and roles that she has the potential to progress to in the 5 years that she has served so far.

Arin is of average-height with pale skin, ginger hair and blue eyes. She has one or two distinguishing features including a birthmark on her forehead, a lazy eye and a tattoo of the Liberty Navy logo on her upper back.

She is currently single. Her most recent romance was with a transport called Nathaniel Patrick Brown, captain of the Interspace Commerce Vessel “OrwellsNightmare”, who is the same age as her. They broke up because their respective careers meant very little of their time was spent together, but they have remained good friends.

*sighs* Well, I did it. I've requested a transfer to the 46th. I've been a navy grunt for 5 years, and a pilot for 10 and I just don't feel like my life is taking the direction that I wanted it to. I want to command one day, not just fly as a glorified babysitter looking after navy transport runs, I mean jeez, that's what I left Interspace for, only to end up doing it for the navy instead. OK so I get to fly frequent sorties in the debris fields putting the frighteners up the rouges that hang out there, but it's not enough.

I guess I'll just enjoy my few days leave as best I can, and hope I hear back soon.

Well I did it. I got accepted into the 46th. I've been spending a lot of time in the flight sims with some of the other pilots that have also recently been recruited, as well as with some of the officers to try and improve my one on one skills. Up until now I've never had much of a problem fighting as I've always been assigned to pick off the smaller weaker targets, or fight as part of a transport group. The 46th go after the more hardcore individual targets, so I've got to up my game.

It's interesting how the backgrounds of the other pilots have prepared them for this role differently. Another Avenger pilot, Alex, is far better at this stuff than I am, though I don't really know how he came to be so good. I think he is going to do well.

I think I'm going to try and spend some time with Nathanial when I get some leave. It has been far too long since I last saw him.

Well, it looks like I'm not the FNG anymore. From being a generic navy pilot, to a recruit in the 46th, and now a fully fledged ensign[1]. Things are finally coming up Arin.

Nothing else to report today.
