Daniel Jaeger was born on the planet New Berlin, which is located in the system of the same name, in the heart of Rheinland, a country that he extolled more than others. Young Daniel's childhood was more than standard, his father and mother were with him, and Daniel was with them. Daniel's father was a mechanic of various types of spaceships, who worked at the Alster shipyard, was a workaholic, from which father and son rarely saw each other, to put it mildly. Mother was an accountant at a company that was engaged in the production and supply of fuel known in the Sirius Sector as MOX. This continued until high school. At 17 years, Daniel never saw his mother again. A terrorist attack ended the life of Erica Jaeger, and she was buried in her homeland. The planet Hamburg.
His father, whom he had seen so little, could now be said to be living at his job, since he liked working as a mechanic, but alas brought little profit.
Upon graduation, he entered the flight academy of the Army of the Rheinland. The course of training in flight skills and various maneuvers, even on simulators of small aircraft like the legendary ships of the Valkyrie type, was without exaggeration difficult, but with each year of training, Daniel got into the taste. And at the age of 24, Daniel joined the Rheinland intelligence service, which is also known as Marinenachrichtendienst (MND). Father and son were no longer in contact. The father disappeared from "all radars" and his fate is not known to Daniel.
Service in Rheinland Intelligence
At the very beginning of his service in the MND, Daniel carried out only small assignments, as in other things, and the rest of the neophytes in such an elite service as the MND. Sometimes Daniel even wondered how he was accepted here at all, and not sent as a dispatcher to any border station. But there was less time to think with each new assignment. On one of the days, he and his friends, with whom he is familiar and has been in close contact since the very first year of the academy, were sent to scout the situation in the Omega-7 system, it was reported about "strange signatures" and pirate raids from various pirates, both self-employed and Red Hessians.
The task seemed to Daniel quite dangerous, since previously he and his comrades had only carried out small tasks to escort one or another armored ship or to obtain information about the situation in the Frankfurt or Hamburg systems. The pain of loss was still gnawing at his heart when he visited this system and the planet Hamburg. And here she is. The nebula of the Omega-7 system. Only the searchlights of the ships made it possible to see anything in the nebula. As it was said at the briefing: The shells of rheinland merchant ships, pirates and rescue capsules both in space and on the sides of pirate ships, as shown by scanning their holds. A massacre was brewing...
And so, a battle ensued between Daniel's squadron and the pirates. The opponents took everyone from the group of the Rhineland group by cunning, and only they tried to scare Daniel with shots of their plasma guns, presumably of Breton production. The slaughter did not last long and only Daniel remained, surrounded by the destroyed ships of his comrades and their corpses that are now drifting in the eternal void. The surviving pilot didn't try to do anything.
He is alone, his friends and friends with whom he spent many years at the academy and on various assignments were killed in front of his eyes. He was overwhelmed with a variety of feelings, ranging from anger and ending with the grief of loss that happened again in his life. But.. the pirate ships just stood there and did not show aggression. They were waiting for something. And suddenly, out of the void, ahead of the killers of Daniel's comrades, it appeared. A wonderful and terrible-looking creature. It radiated light, shimmered with colors, and showed no aggression. Daniel felt a slight warmth through his body. But then a whole hail of images, voices, visions followed, the pilot did not know what to do, he did not understand what was happening, his head was cracking from the multitude of voices in his head and he felt fear, animal fear.
And then all as one said in Daniel's head:
-"Salvation awaits you where the ancients used to tread, where you wouldn't just get there and didn't come out alive. We're watching you. We are waiting for you."
And after that, all the ships simply disappeared into the void, and the broken, frightened Daniel did not understand what had happened at all, didn't even remember how he got here or where he was at all.
Further, rehabilitation and shock followed from the fact that Daniel did not even remember that he and his companions were personally sent on a mission to Omega-7 and only he survived. A wave of sadness and regret for his losses shook him during the day, and at night he was pestered by some kind of whisper, as if someone was whispering in his ear, and nightmares that tell him that only he is worthy of salvation and he should go north to the omicron systems, and only there will the truth be revealed to him.
Madness or salvation?
Several years have passed since that cursed task, but the spirits of the past still haunt the already thirty-year-old Daniel, whispers, nightmares and visions have not been in vain, and he was slowly going crazy. The same thing every night:
"Salvation is waiting for you, we are waiting for you."
Daniel has already learned this whisper and nightmare by heart. Down to the smallest detail. That was what bothered him. And one day, he decides to leave his home to understand what awaits him there, away from home. In case he does not return, he will be reunited with those he lost earlier, and will also be immersed in oblivion, like his mother, comrades and friends.
Already a half-crazed Rheinland reconnaissance pilot received permission to take off under the pretext of a new assignment from the high command of intelligence, sat in the cockpit of the Viper, the very ship in which he flew out on that hated mission with all his soul. He had set sail and was already on his way to the Omicron systems. Now, Daniel Jaeger is listed in the dossier as missing, but there are stories that people still find the same Rheinland fighter with the call sign "Viper" written on the hull.
