With the scientists hard at work, theres been little need to deactivate the cloak, giving the crew and myself a nice break from the constant perils out here in the Omicrons. That was, until Carter casually informed me that they needed more samples from the nomadic entities resembling gunboat-class human ships Her phrasing seems unnecessarily long. So, we fired up the engines and headed near a planet discovered early on in the expedition Planet Gammu. It seemed these nomad gunboats would occasionally show up near this planet. Sure enough, we managed to shoot down about four of these strange gunboats within an hour.
When first exploring the system, Planet Gammu was thought to be a barren planet with no signs of life. However, during the hour spent in close orbit around Gammu, we picked up seemingly random pulses of radiation and radio signals emanating from the planet. These signals had Kiley worried, as we knew there was a fairly large Corsair contingence in the area who werent too fond of us being there.
Sure enough, a Corsair cruiser turned up and was rather angry with our presence in Corsair space.
I ordered an emergency power up of engines and a retreat to the edge of the system. Unfortunately, the Crusier found us and inquired further
I made a deal with the Captain for him to leave us alone if we gave him some of the Corsair hostages we had on board These were the ones stupid enough to engage our ship.
He kept his word and left us be in Kappa.
After the Corsairs knew of our presence in Kappa, they sent increasing patrols out to deal with us. All of them were destroyed and their pilots reeled in for questioning. I made yet another deal with these captured Corsairs (I seem to be making too many of these deals) which was that they would be released back to their brothers if they told me what I wanted to know. Many of them refused and quite rudely spat in the interrogators face. Those ones were moved to less hospitable quarters and dealt with much less pleasantly. In fact, Im not sure what happened to those ones Anyway. The few greenhorns they sent out caved in and gave us some information we needed to know Jumphole locations, Corsair & Order patrol patterns; Things like that. Now, me being a man of my word, I contacted one of the Corsairs in Gamma, using the frequency supplied to us by one of the Corsairs Juano I believe his name was.
I managed to convince the Corsair to move out to Kappa alone and retrieve his rookie pilots Sure to get a beating for releasing information about Corsair movements. However, I made yet another deal with this Corsair Asking for him to spread the word that the LNS-Nevada isnt to be engaged in edge space. He agreed and moved to the co-ordinates sent by our nav-computer. Once there, he shut down all systems and we made a fly-by of his bomber, dropping the hostages in small cargo pods as we shot past.
I dont trust the Corsair as far as I could shoot em with the Mortar. However, these little deals should make them aware we dont really care about harming them. Maybe theyll get that through their thick heads before trying to shoot at us again.
