Name: Roy Howard Affiliation: Bretonian Armed Forces Date of Birth: October 1, 775 AS Place of Birth: Planet New London, Bretonia
Early life and family history: The son of Marcus Howard, former governor of Central District, and Angeline Howard (née Haley), a veteran cricket player, Roy Howard was born on October 1, 775 AS in the Central District of Planet New London. His birthplace was in a family hospital located at the fourth floor of a towering apartment, an amenity only accessible to those who belong to the upper classes of Bretonian society. As such, he was already accustomed to living a luxurious life - something that the average Bretonian, most notably among the workers of Planet Leeds, would only dream for.
However, his early years would be filled by bad luck and misfortune. It all started when Marcus was involved in a scandal involving his alleged abuse of power. leading to his removal of position as Governor of Central District in 780 AS. He was found guilty and was sentenced to three years in prison, and would later die aboard the prison ship Gloucester, when it fell to a vicious Corsair attack in 781 AS. Two years later, Angeline would die, this time from an aneurysm. Roy would remember the tragic death of his parents, yet he didn't give up and soon enrolled in the Armed Forces Military Academy in 790 AS.
In 795 AS, Roy married Sandra Hamilton, a professional economist of the University of New London. Together they had their only son, Steven Howard, who was born on July 19, 797 AS. However, his relationship with his son was tedious at best, and the two would only reconcile in 819 AS. Roy would later file a divorce to Sandra in 818 AS, as he dedicated his full-time service in the Armed Forces.
Military service: After graduating the Academy in 793 AS, Roy had already learned the essential steps to becoming a capable and respected Armed Forces pilot. His first military role was with the Secondary Fleet, starting as a deckman aboard the destroyer HMS Scotland until it was decommisioned in 799 AS. While serving as bridge officer of the battleship HMS Abundant, life in the military was uneventful for him, even when the Nomad War raged on as Bretonia had minimal role in the conflict. Throughout his entire career as a bridge officer, the Abundant was and still is an important asset in the Armed Forces.
814 AS was not a welcoming year for Bretonia, which went to war with Kusari. The Abundant fought in many fronts, yet unlike the misfortune that had plagued his family, the Dunkirk-class was fortunate enough to avoid an untimely destruction. Roy was instrumental in saving a fleet of Bretonian ships after repelling a squadron of Kusari destroyers that had come to intercept the battered fleet, and was therefore promoted to ship captain. The Abundant would continue to serve Bretonia during the later Sirius-Gallic war that lasted between 818 AS and continued for almost a decade.
Later years and transfer to the Auxiliary Fleet: Roy would soon become one of the Secondary Fleet's most prestigious officers, commanding his flagship, the HMS Abundant, as well as the Fortitude-class battlecruiser HMS Constant, the Churchill-class gunboat HMS Castle, and later the Crecy-class destroyer HMS Integral. Though his strict discipline was a concern for some fellow officers, his ability to think tactically led to the greater success of Armed Forces operations across Bretonia and neighboring systems.
After fighting off the breakaway Enclave in 827 AS, Roy transferred to the Reserve Fleet, and later the Auxiliary Fleet in 828 AS. His recent successes in various engagements, thanks to his decades-long experience, soon earned him the prestigious rank of Vice Admiral. Today, he is regarded by many as a model officer of the Bretonian Armed Forces, upholding the integrity of the Kingdom of Bretonia for many years to come.
After a year-long break from service, which saw a vacancy on the position of Vice Admiral, he returned to service on August 14, 830 AS. Currently, he is a member of the Auxiliary Fleet once more, captaining the newly-commissioned vessels HMS Strikethrough, HMS Exuberant, HMS Fisher, and HMS Composite.
Personality and skills: Roy Howard is a bold and disciplined officer who is known for instilling proper discipline among his subordinates. Despite this, he never gets pressured as easily as others when faced with military defeat, instead learning from earlier mistakes and translating it into further victories. He is also a skilled pilot and tactician, helping him secure victories with only minimal losses for the Armed Forces.
In ways that differ from his son, Roy is slow to change, always being traditional and old-fashioned. He isn't particularly sensitive to jokes and recent trends and is oftentimes very formal to his subordinates. He is also not prone to fear, and will always commit to a fight even in situations that seem to be impossible to pull of a victory, yet in these occasions he has won many of them.
