I've been involved in organizations that extends from before my time in the military, during, and after. I've participated in every facet of those organizations whether it be sweeping floors and scrubbing tables after events to sitting in the top chair and making decisions. I will gladly perform either role if it is for an organization or community that I care and believe in.
It has been months since I have logged in and flown on the server but I've kept tabs of the community in hopes that something happens that would change the culture or direction of the community. I was also asked to review a post regarding my old ConEx group (which I endorse, please approve their requests!!!).
I saw this post and thought I'd submit my input.
Any organization, whether it be an official faction or the community that governs them, must have refreshment in leadership positions. One trend I have noticed about this community and it's factions is that once leadership is obtained it is nearly impossible to relinquish despite lack of interest or activity by the leading party. Therefore, it should be no surprise that we continue to see once thriving and fun factions now failing simple activity checks, let alone perform any kind of meaningful role play to boot.
If the day to day players that have ideas and ambition do not feel heard or do not see a pathway moving up, they will no longer have motivation to continue doing this and will leave. The turning point for me was when I was passed over for moderator by a toxic inactive and somebody else who my first run in with this person thought that a potentially 15 year old who was given a tampon by an older gentleman was good roleplay for Freelancer. Yup, read that again if you like. Meanwhile, another moderator was wasting space that couldn't even conduct reasonable faction diplomacy let alone moderate a community. He's since been fired, but you all know who I'm talking about.
Until this trend ends and this community sees a change in culture, from players and factions up, we will continue to see single digit player counts when the server was almost impossible to enter at one point.

First of all I don't think this is how you apply for Moderator,Admin or w/e role you want. Second I don't think a guy that builds PoBs all around Sigmas out of spite , or avoids interactions because he deems people "unworthy" without knowing them is fit to lead or organize anything.
I saw this post and thought I'd submit my little input, have a good day sir.
If you are easily offended, my advice to you is simple: Move, let it go, it is over.
What you thought I was gonna say something brutal didn't you? Haha no. Staff needs to stop reminding the few of us that are left what the state of this beautiful community is every month. If they really wanna be useful, they should find a way to make this fun again...- wait. We had this discussion before, jokes on me. Incapability as well as lost will to do anything have led to this unfortunate demise, maybe it is time to just put the locks and throw the keys away.

Correct, this is not how somebody applies for the role. The positions are offered from time to time and those interested are able to apply. We fill out a code/form and wait until after the recruitment window is closed as staff review the applications. Those who are chosen are revealed to the community in a public post. Did you honestly believe I did not know how it works?
The two circumstances I believe you are referring to is the Baltimore Shipyard incident (which the more I think about it, the more I believe it is you) and the POBs being planted around the Sigmas.
I'm replying to this only to defend myself. If you would like to discuss these items further, then lets open a thread of our own to discuss. Note also that these happened after I had applied and my giveadam was broken at this point (not because I wasn't selected, but because of other situations such as this).
I was in talks with 46th leadership about a role as it's logistics head. My duties would be to ensure Salt Lake was always topped off and fully repaired while also conducting convoys to procure other items needed for RP projects. It went so deep as to possibly build POBs in the indie systems for the purpose of contracting foreign companies to make drops. Doesn't make sense for a fleet of 46th to roll into Rheinland to get Fusion Diodes. The day that I decided to look at the inventory and state of affairs of Salt Lake is the day this happened. Literally day 1. I saw a red buzzing around and disrupting trade lanes near the hub of Fort Bush/Baltimore Shipyard. I was in a transport and a non-combatant at the time. I ignored this fellow until he decided to order me to stop and threw a CD at me which, by then, I was already near the docking point of Baltimore. I've never understood the rules with CDs so to be on the safe side I presumed I was PVP dead and stayed on station, but I was angry. I admitted to you and 46th leadership that I behaved irrationally and I allowed my emotions to rule my decision making, but I stand by the root as to what caused my anger.
If you pirate frequently wonder why transports just dock when you fly by, read this. It makes no sense to pirate near populated hubs in the game or places (such as near battleships) where there is a heavy lawful presence. This guy decided to pirate me near 2 military installations (Fort Bush and Salt Lake). If this was a lore friendly interaction, a simple radio call would bring in fighter squads, if not heavier ships. The place would be locked down until the pirate was destroyed and we would all wonder what state of mind that pilot was in to try and do this in this location. However, game mechanics are limiting, so that would never happen. I've been on record numerous times complaining how pirates do this nonesense. I private messaged this person and asked them if it makes sense to mug somebody in front of a police station. Whether this person (really hoping it's not you, we've had much better interactions in the past and this would shock me) thought that yes is the correct answer or they were being a smartass is neither here nor there. The correct answer is no, no it does not make sense. So if this person was looking for a role play interaction, use your words and orchestrate one. Ping 46th/LPI channels that there is a pirate shooting trade lanes between such and such or a pirate is camped at such and such gate. But to roll into a lawful hub and demand attention to somebody that clearly has other things going on - what do you think was going to happen? So yes, I learned all I needed to learn about this person within a minute to determine that this interaction was unworthy of my time. My private messages were not required. I agree and still apologize to this day about that.
Out of respect to The Doctor and the 46th, I decided to resign my membership entirely due to philosophical differences in this issue. Plus the final fiber of believe in this community had been shattered. For the record, I still count Doctor as a good friend here. I could not guarantee this would not happen again and did not want the faction, who just achieved officialdom, dragged into it.
As far as the sigmas... oh yes, you would be shocked to know who else was supporting those endeavors. The POB network was part of a... bigger and bolder strategy that at this point has been buried since most who were part of the group has either left or have other duties to perform within the community. Again, this happened after my application was denied. To point to this as one of the reasons I was not picked proves that you did not do your research before making this point. This surprises me because I thought you better than that. This also goes to my point too. We did this yet we were not the ones fired from our moderator position so, think on that one.
So, to turn this right back around to the point of OF activity, this is just two scenarios that has made this once ambitious and motivated Freelancer/entrepreneur to look elsewhere for entertainment and fulfillment. Side note, if you are new to the community or you have been here for awhile and are not feeling the same frustrations, do what makes you happy. If you are happy and enjoying your time in this community, don't base your thoughts on posts like these. Continue to have fun and laughs with friends like I once did.

I just want to say people like Doctor are the big issue from the player side. I am surprised you can even consider a person like this a good friend. He is a tumor, a huge part of the problem why people lose interest in the game. A person who doesn't realise this is a game people play for enjoyment. People. people that are here for their relationships, for their friends.
I just wish the game would be more community oriented :l
People like racer especially are fucking huge assets to the game that should be treated like gold, and so many people don't realise it.

Posts like this would be more helpful if they were less people-based and more specific on what behavior exactly makes "people like X" either "gold" or a "tumor".
"He doesn't realize this is a game people play for enjoyment" could be applied to anyone as soon as they start expressing concerns about anything.
Saying this as someone who knows neither of those two people.

Ah yes, the malignant growth calling people bad. Doc is one of the nicest and helpful guys in Discovery, you should learn a thing or two from him.
