Coronado To Host NATO Exercises
YUMA -As relations between the Kingdom of Bretonia and the Republic of Liberty remain at an all-time low, the Armed Forces have taken the lead in attempting to remedy the present situation. Utilizing Bretonia's membership in the Naval Alliance Treaty Organization, or NATO for short, hopes are high that the collaboration between Bretonia, Liberty and Crayter will play a larger role in bringing to an end the difficult times faced by the Bretonian economy, now still facing almost complete collapse after failure to secure other deals with the neighboring Great Houses.
What is NATO and what purpose does the alliance serve? -Created in 817, on Curacao, the Naval Alliance Treaty Organization is an alliance between the Kingdom of Bretonia, the Republic of Liberty and the Crayter Republic. The common goal that has rallied the three vastly different nations is the desire for maintaining an alliance focused on peace, stability and security in the turbulent Independent Worlds, with a yet-unexploited possibility for deployments beyond the borders of any participant nation.
Whilst all the members are proud to announce their participation and do not hesitate to take part in any joint exercises, NATO's success has been called into question by the more conservative parts of both Bretonia and Liberty, with an accent put on the unfolding events in the Vespucci and Kansas sectors respectively. Still, for the Crayter Republic, it provides guarantees of security in case of a foreign invasion, with just as much importance given to the other states as well.
Do the exercises relate to the events in Vespucci? -While officials have so far refused to offer comments on this topic, it is speculated that the deployments in Coronado have less to deal with the Insurgency and are instead focused on both the nearby system of Inverness and its inhabitants, and on the ever-growing Outcast smuggling activity. Of note is also the need for joint training operations, further exacerbated by the need to train pilots on the recently-acquired foreign ships by Bretonia, Liberty and Crayter alike.
The mainstay of the planned operations in Coronado will be represented by capital warship firing exercises, coordinated by the Armed Forces and Crayter Navy. Participating units are expected to also simulate 'wargames' that would prepare NATO for a foreign deployment or for a joint response.
Does NATO plan to expand its purpose? -Representatives of the Armed Forces have stated in an earlier press conference that NATO's purpose will likely see serious amendments over the coming months, as Bretonia prepares to send a 'warning message' to Sirius that it and its allies remain committed to defending freedom, justice and equality. In addition, the delegates have also stated that 'NATO must not get entangled in the complex diplomatic situation' and that it 'should seek to expand operations to systems known to house outlawed elements of all three nations'.
While such a move will certainly take time, and, more importantly, require a serious diplomatic effort by the Foreign Office, it is not expected that changes in NATO's mission and tasks will come before at least the next year. We will continue to provide additional updates on this topic as they come.
The next broadcast will cover the efforts currently on-going to formalize a new agreement related to the management of Planet Harris and its importance for Bretonia's future. Until then, feel free to leave a comment.

Unbelievable. The war in Vespucci is still raging with no end in sight and yet Liberty is pulling troops to participate in this pointless PR exercise. Instead of this purely symbolic show of cohesion, Crayter and Bretonia should send their own into Vespucci to end this clownshow once and for all ! ⚠ This claim about the war in Vespucci is disputed
