I believer your memory is not as short as ancestors of the creature whose you aliased yourself after and you still remember me, who I am or rather was and our conversation on Fontana.
I'll try to be short: the Insurgency's fight is lost - the last battles are ongoing right before the resisting remnants will be choked to death by the Liberty's forces. My ship is gone, but I and a small bunch of my men survived; we have nowhere to go, but willing to continue fighting.
I might be not the best candidate for a guerilla fighter, but I have some skills you might use, and you have what I could use - the cause to fight for. Are you willing to give me and my men a chance?
I remember our discussion well, unfortunately, and I recall that we had hugely different ideas for the future. I'd appreciate some elaboration as to what your skillset is, because from where I stand it's clearly neither leadership nor bravery.
And for the record, my namesake is on account of that serpent's affinity to hunt and kill other snakes.
Would you rather die in the middle of nowhere attacked by former allies, or lure out of death to keep making your enemies life worse? If you prefer the former, then you are either bold or fool which usually the same; I'm the latter - I fled and here I am, talking to you now. I am well in luring, lurking and striking from the shadows, despite my former being as a Captain of a now gone warship. I believe this is something more valuable than being a yet another dead but certainly bold fool.
Serpents and birds share common heritage, don't you think it's ironic?
You want the benefit of having a cause, but you won't pay the price of standing up for it. So do you even truly want a cause? That's where I don't quite believe you. If you aren't willing to kill and even die for what you believe in, then of what use are you to us? None, apparently.
You're telling me you'd rather run than die, but also asking to serve a cause that will one day have to fight for its home. So which is it?
As I hinted, there is a huge difference between dying for the cause and dying just for the sake to be remembered bold and brave. I don't want to die in some unknown asteroid field against a drunken rogue or a proud owner of an extra chromosome from the Navy that decided to dispatch torpedoes in the asteroid traffic. I can command such fools from a distant, if necessary, but not going to be amongst them. This is why I am a bad leader, indeed, but may be a well tactics operative.
If you have need in such, I am willing to offer my service. Otherwise, perhaps the BHG would welcome someone like me; after all their core is made of former Houston residents, called simply thugs in normal society. One of my Captains was from Houston, by the way. Haven't heard from her for a while, but she for certain didn't die for the Insurgency's cause.
