Alec Reed from Phoenix Security. First off, I am pleased to hear from a fellow outworlder from our part of the region, and also your ambitions to explore new worlds.

In regards to your request and having recently spoken to Livadia, I have been informed we do not have an existing design to automate a Fearless class vessel. However, our shipwrights indicated this could still be done ad-hoc in your case, whilst keeping lead time and cost to a minimum. The proposal currently brought forward, is to link up majority of the ship’s function with an off the shelf systems already available for the Corvo class, commonly used by solo or a small team of explorers and fortune hunters. The old Zoner Corvo class (before downgraded to open market Civilian spec), ran on same components and modules to the Fearless. There were few differences between the ships but this can be adapted with a few re-design and adjustments tailored specifically to the Fearless.

Nonetheless, our team at the shipyard still advises against this refit. Even with a fully managed system and robotic backups, it does not replace a full complement of crew originally planned into the Q-Ship. Potential issue which may now arise ranges from absent of periodic maintenance, lack of task segregation to avoid user overload, to limited damage control and emergency repair in a hostile situation. These would also be the priority areas to cover should any additional subsequent crew could be brought on board.


As for the cost of refit (excluding the base vessel), Livadia has quoted an estimate of the additional materials required, and the respective charges at the local market rate for each vessel:

In addition, given the modifications involved and the potential firepower of the Fearless class, this vessel will be subjected to a market embargo in Sirius; and must be sold back or unfitted first at an Outworlder installation. To further safeguard our technology, upgrade to an active crew biometrics security will be mandatory and the system will only function to the corresponding personnel. We hope you understand these measures taken, which aims to reduce hardware potentially falling into the wrong hands through hostile boarding, or leading to transfer of assets to a third party which may be used against our interest.

Should you accept the risks noted by our shipwrights, and agree to the terms and the listed cost above, please bring your credentials personally to Livadia for verification. We will also request 20% deposit to be paid before the works begin, with the remainder payable on completion.

My name is Erica Starr, and I myself operate a Fearless-class, the Hotel World's End. I don't have the programming know-how to help with the automation - I'll leave that to the experts - but I have years of experience with the ship type.
So if you want, I'd be willing to give you an introduction to it - controls, equipment, maintenance, troubleshooting, that sort of thing. It's a pretty big step up from a Conference, so it probably wouldn't hurt to have someone show you the basics.

As for the query for the other vessels. Livadia confirmed they will also be able to upgrade these ships with biometric security. Quotes on each vessel are:

• Conference class – 45,000
  
• Any small crafts – 13,000
  

The sum includes the cost of the software, hardware, installation and shipyard fee; payable on completion.

The works have started on the Conference, and the Osprey to be followed shortly.

Regarding the Nephilim, as the ship is structured around the functions and operations of a freeport, it already comes with an existing array of security features. This lists from a range of security access levels and restricted zones, to sensor tracking and an exhaustive list of contingent protocols. A biometric security, not currently included could be added, but it is typically fitted to individual rooms or sections where uppermost sensitive materials, information or even individuals are held. Fitting one across on this vessel would be rather redundant as we would already expect a rotating crew to be on station, and security staffs to be on duty at all times. It would also hinder crew access to systems or rooms in a timely manner under general quarters, and interferes with some of the contingent protocols already set in place, which I recommend against.

Should you still require this modifications, we expect over 250 core terminals, junctions and access corridors will need to be upgraded. We expect the lead time to complete is 1-2 weeks, and the cost roughly as $1,750,000 to equip the system across the whole ship.

In the meantime, I have also receive an update towards the progress on your Q-ship. The fitting is proceeding to plans so far, nonetheless, the engineers working on your ship had recently ran some test simulations, and came up with a suggestion of using an holo-tainment band as an additional tool at your disposal. They have noted that even with the ship running on automation, sometimes scenario may arise where the driver would want to take manual control. The aim of the band proposed is to help the user to manage multiple systems more smoothly if needed under operational pressure, and subsequently increase response time to these systems respectively.

As for the cost of this alterations, the upside is that a no further resources are required, as existing optronics and bio-neural processors could be repurposed for the job. The downside however, is that the contingency fund may have to be drawn on slightly as the team will need to work on the existing UI and upload this to the band, which also expects the lead-time to increase by a day or two.

This option is completely up to you. We understand some individuals are hesitant towards the use of these bands, and you may already be aware with the lack of medical data available on the long term health effects if used for an extended period.
