Just fired up my old Freelancer game, looked for some online mods, and checked to see if Discovery was still a thing! DiscoveryGC is still alive! Took a browse around the forums and wandered down the Members List and there was my old character. Not played since December 2011 according to the logs. I played for about 4 years, but none of my characters wouldn't have survived. I did have fun in Dublin as I recall.
Wanting to know what is a good way to start off again. There were some great smuggling routes, and trading routes but they would be long gone. Any advise?
That is quite a lot of oldies coming back to the flock as of late. Welcome! There's plenty of trading routes to go by, such as cardi-slaves. But the most profitable ones are the ore routes, you can refer to this thread to figure out what's what.

Pick up and sell the commodities without icon at each. Their infocards also tell you where to go. It makes good money, almost on par with ore hauling, and provides plenty of variety in locations.

if you are looking for smuggling routes, the two I would recommend are the Cardamine to planet manhattan landing site, and taking kidnapped VIPs back to Planet Malta for a round trip. Although, you will have to find a amuggling friend to load and unload your cargo onto the Landing Site, as it can only support ships up to freighters. Aswell, it is very dangerous, so take it with extreme caution.
the other is Xeno Relics from the mineable zone in Planet Knossos to Fontana Freeport in California, although I forget what you take back

Thank you people! I managed to download the game and start my first character. Man its a bit of a thrill after all these years. So much has changed! I worked out the restarts so been zooming around various sectors with various ID's for a bit of a look-see.
I am very intrigued by the different bases you can build now. Wasn't a thing in 2011. And I saw a barge!
The trade route inter-house sounds right up my street, Toaster. And I took your advice about Firefly's link Xenon and Valdoral. Chronicron appreciated the link to mining. Going to have a lot of reading to catch up with various lore, laws and loots!
