Insurgency Forces Test Magellan Blockade
MAGELLAN - Patrols in Magellan were caught off-guard earlier today when a substantial force of Insurgency vessels attempted to break the established blockade upheld by the local Naval garrison. While reports from the exchange are still under review, what has been released hints that the forces involved show markings consistent with those of the defunct terrorist group known as the Hellfire Legion, although the engagement did not appear to be wholly successful for the fleeing traitor forces.
Fielded correspondents, as well as trustworthy sources within the Magellan Defense Force and the LSF, believe that the attack was simply a diversion to allow heavier assets to flee pacification operations within the Vespucci system. L.N.S. Chula Vista, an Interdictor-class warship participating in the region screening, reported signals matching those of former Legion assets passing the engagement zone into the Barrier, where tracking was lost. Chula Vista, as well as its escort group, is currently undergoing minor repairs, and is slated to return to duties by the middle of next week.
Curiously, Defense Force Magellan had several freelance vessels to thank for the lax number of casualties from the attack. Many Insurgency vessels that did not flee through the anomaly or into the Barrier appear to have been disabled by the partisans, who reportedly utilized EMP weapons to good effect, and many of the crews aboard the traitor gunships and cruisers are being gathered for containment and transfer to prison ships in the core. Currently, the freelancers have refrained from identifying themselves, and appeared to leave as quickly as they had arrived, but LSF correspondents have already assured us that their identities are currently being investigated.
