He just smiled about the movie reference. "Yes, something like that."
He then sighed. "We have today here. Let me get into something more appropriate."
Leaving his chair, he took his mug with him and headed for the guest room. Within a few minutes, he came out dressed in a set of leather chaps. He also took two old style rifles from a closet and handed her one.
"I will teach you to use that later."
He put on his his pistol holsters, put on a coat and over that a poncho. He then gave Sonja a poncho as well. "These will keep us dry."
With that, he escorted her to the stable where he prepared his horses, George and Gracie, with saddles and blankets.
"You will ride Gracie," he told Sonja. "She is more forgiving to new riders."
Together, they rode through the light rain of the day. A light fog rose off the lake and hung in many of the trees. Still, Doc knew his lands. The wildlife was plentiful as his lands were undisturbed. They paid little attention to him.
"They smell the horses and not us," he quietly explained as they looked over some deer by a tree line. "so they do not see us as a threat."
He rubbed George on the neck. "The lake is quite large so it will take us much of the day to get around it. It will make for quite a nice day."
Together, they rode side by side, just enjoying what nature was offering. For this day, the thoughts of what was to come never surfaced. Doc, at least, was at peace.
