Parliament To Debate New Defence Bill
NEW LONDON -As another week comes to an end, the Crown Royalists once more prepare to launch significant reforms in the military and industrial sector. Continuing last week's legacy, this Tuesday marks the start of renewed debates around a proposed bill to reintroduce national service and increase the defence budget for the first time since the end of the Gallic invasion -- in an attempt to increase the presence of the military across the bordering regions of the House.
When will voting end? -Though the motion is presently under talks, the Royalists have been quick to accuse the Libertarian and SDF parties of "conspiring against the interests of the Kingdom" due to their opposition to the increase in military expenditure across the board. The accusations arrive not only due to the opposition posed by the two fronts, but also due to their close allegiance with the Republic of Liberty, with whom the Kingdom has recently seen a rise in tensions. These strong affiliation have effectively driven a wedge in the parliament, with the Whigs and Crown Royalists looking towards Kusari and Rheinland for cooperation, whilst the more left-leaning groups have turned ever-sharply in favor of increasing the partnership with Liberty and working to restore relations.
It is anticipated that voting on the motion may end as soon as this Saturday, as the Royalists have promised to launch 'extensive measures to prioritize the safety of planetary life' to the Green Party representatives, which may likely lead to the front voting in favor. Furthermore, the Whig Party remains just as much of a gamble – with one half supporting the motion and the other against it.
Nevertheless, what is certain is that the vote will certainly be a landslide victory by present numbers, as the Libertarian and SDF parties hold only a small number of seats in the parliament.
How can the re-implementation of national service affect every-day citizens? -Active during the days of the Gallic War, the national service became a part of life – one that the people had become accustomed to. While the act was officially repealed after the conclusion of the war, the current Royalist-majority government seeks to return it in a similar fashion, but with a different goal – to prepare the Kingdom against any would-be invaders and ensure that all men of conscription age are fit to serve once the industrial sector is re-established elsewhere in a firm manner.
Many have said that the reintroduction of national service will bring about 'great change' in Bretonian society, however some youth organizations have already said that they will protest the act should it be implemented.
Still, with the government fixated on immediate remilitarization and economic development, it is unclear how or if the opposition to this motion will even receive a say in the days to come, with the Defence Secretary even saying that 'the people should accept the hardships in the short-term so that we may all benefit in the long-term'.
