While in conversation with traders and pirates on various threads here on the subject of piracy, the topic generally turns to how traders should run convoys and hire escorts as protection against piracy and potentially increase RP. Easier said than done, however.
The resident lawful factions on Disco are mostly interested in Capital PvP, and I can't recall the last time I've seen a BH player online,
As such, I intend to initiate the formation of an "assets protection" group under the auspices of the generic Interspace Commerce ID as an extension of their lore-correct and InRP insurance capacity.
I have contacted the AWES group which is the current OF using IC id and have agreed to follow their lead as far as IC faction RP on the server.
I have myself created a small core of escort ships and placed them on the IC stations in the capital systems. I have named the company "DrengrCo". The word Drengr itself is taken from Old Norse:
Snorri Sturluson wrote, "Valiant men who exert a good influence are called Drengr." A Drengr possessed bravery, nobility, magnanimity, a sense of fair play, respect for others, the strength to do what is right, and a sense of personal honor. Physical bravery was taken for granted. More important was self-control. A Drengr showed equanimity in the face of danger, not because of insensitivity or stupidity, but because the danger and the possible risk to life and limb was unimportant compared to the need to maintain self-respect and the respect of the community.
My existing ships also use ship names derived from Norse mythology, but this is a personal affectation and is not intended as a naming convention. (ie: one GB has the name "Farbauti" which means "cruel striker")
The intent is to create a loose coalition of players with an interest in convoys and convoy related RP, to have a relatively cohesive group to participate in future convoy related server events and to answer the typical comments noted above regarding the lack of trader RP with respect to piracy.
Let's give them some RP with Guns & Missiles!
Those who would like to participate are invited to create or re-tag IC id'ed escort ships of faction correct ship types per the Tech Compatibility Chart using ship names DrengrCo.Shipname.
**Special Note: You will find that Interspace Commerce has 75% compat with Core ships & Equipment**
(Due to the inRP lore of the Core being hard-pressed militarily and not having enough ships as it is, I defer to the Admins regarding the extent to which Core ships are actually available, and hereby request their input on this topic. I had the thought that perhaps the availability might be limited to the reconstruction of derelict core hulls that had been stripped of reusable equipment by the Core, and their being rebuilt with more commonly available equipment gives them the 75% tech compat. The number of these ships available would still reasonably be limited.)

It's always been a personal peeve of mine that IC ID'd factions act as if they are Interspace Commerce, as if Interspace actually operates transport fleets themselves rather than acts as an insurer and large-scale investor. One of my favorite things about AWES is that they don't claim to literally be IC, merely owned by/affiliated with them. It's lovely to see you doing something similar. Insuring a group of mercenaries with a good, law-abiding reputation is exactly the sort of thing that I see Interspace as doing.

Much more diversity in ships to fly.
Why do you assume that variety is what DrengrCo wants? If they're aiming to be a company or a subsidiary thereof, it makes sense for them to limit their fleet to a handful of models, since this would simplify parts procurement and maintenance in universe. Furthermore, there's something narratively satisfying about a faction's ship choice serving as a "uniform" for its players to wear.
