Glad to see Freelancer is still around. I love this game! Any advice for a new player? Also, are there any easy ways to make new things for Freelancer?
Hello and welcome. I was also a vanilla (what we call the original version of the game) lover, as I am sure many here were. As for making new things I would assume you mean ships/systems/stations/guns/etc., in which case the answer is no. There are a lot of talented and friendly modders here though that will help you and answer your questions if you want to pursue this.
As for advice, how's this:
Take note that this is an RP server. This being the case we have some pretty complex rules to make sure it stays that way and everybody has a pleasurable experience here. Be sure to read all the rules and obey them. Some are a little complex, reading sanction reports helped me gain a better understanding of many of them.
If you need help or have any questions you can always post on the forums. Additionally you can stop by the disco help channel where you can also meet a great group of friendly players who have a lot of experience here (link in sig). This is in skype which is the chat program of choice of this community, I highly recommend getting it if you plan on being active here. Also I have heard the link may not be compatible with some newer versions of skype, if this is the case just PM me your skype name if you want to check it out.
Welcome to the server.
My first advice will be to read the rules.
My second one is to get familiar with RP if you are not already. And don't think it's not fun, cause it is, especially cause of the added realism.
Another is to join one of the official factions that take your fancy. Feel free to ask around, all of us like talking about our factions.
Yet another is to spend time on the forums reading, posting, learning, etc. It really makes you much more knowledgeable about the server.
Another advice is to have a go at writing some RP, nothing too fancy, nothing much, but just start.
Perhaps keep a log of your character, or something.
You'll like building your own story, you'll see.

Play around with whatever you are most interested in, if you get stuck and the tutorials dont help post the question on the forums. I have also heard about a n00b developer chat but dont know if it exists or not.
