Unknown Problems

Ok, so I have had to get another update (speaking of which, can we go back to making it as a new mod? I don't know how to do updates) for the server, and first of all whenever I launch the game in any of my accounts it asks if I want to install beta 5 or not. I've already done this so I press no and get on with the game. This is a problem, but not that big compared to this next one:

I can't access one of my accounts. I go into that windows account and use the DSUpdate shortcut I have on my desktop. It launches and the screen goes black. Normally the next thing that shows up would be the Freelancer logo and then i'd get on with playing. But instead of this the game minimizes. It shows it as loaded on a tab at the bottom of the screen, but whenever I try and get onto it it shows i'm on that tab but nothing happens. Then after about 10 seconds it says Freelancer is not working.
This is a major problem for me as the account I can't access has my trader, two RFP characters, my BHG character and my RoS character.

If anyone knows whats happening or how to fix it I really need the help, I have no idea whats wrong or how to even begin with fixing it.

Did you maybe install the Beta 5 update 2 times by chance and some of your FL files got corrupted?

If noone knows a solution I'd just make a propper reinstall of FL and the mod.

Yeah, sounds like a basic crash to desktop. Re-install, re-activate beta 4, use the auto-updater.

But the thing is is that it works on all my other accounts, It can't be a corruption issue because of that.

Hmmm, interesting. I would so a re-install anyway, it's always a good first step, if that doesnt work, then call in the big guns, aka Cannon.

I've made another windows account and put the characters from the account that doesn't work onto there and it works fine, so thats that problem sorted then.

If it's asking you this question, then it believes that the update is not installed. As such launching the game is probably not going to work and crashing to the desktop and other wierd behaviour is likely (like getting kicked when you try to buy certain ships).

I'm guessing you're running Vista - is this correct?

There are a number of subtle behaviours related to how Vista installs files if you're not running both FL and the updater as an administrator. I wonder if one of these is causing the problem.

I have a new version of the updater that enforces the need to run as adminstrator. If you're interested in trying this out, PM me.

I'm guessing you're running Vista - is this correct?
