One year ago, I stopped playing Freelancer because a curse fell on me... Vista.
This was one year ago and at this time, it was harder to get help because the issues where a bit unknown. I'm coming back to ask for help, I don't want to play Discovery (not yet), all I want is to play Freelancer on single player! I followed D-Boy's tutorial, used the MSXML3 file, tried many thing, compatibility, etc.
Well... it still doesn't work: I can open Freelancer, see the movie and get to the menu, but once i click on start game it closes and Windows says it's looking for a solution (and of course it finds nothing).
I'm using Vista SP1 with Kaspersky (which I know can cause some issues in multiplayer) and I think I've once been able to play single player on Vista... but nothing to do now.
I know this kind of post must be VERY common and you might be saying "oh crap not an other one", but I didn't find a place where to post since D-Boy's tutorial post is locked.
Thank you very much to help me play the game which is one of the best I've played even 6 years after it was created.
Britonix
I always run it as an administrator and I unfortunately can't ditch Vista. What is weird is that i was able to run single player on Vista a year ago (well... It think) and that according to D-Boy, it should work but it doesn't.
Freelancer will NOT work on Vista with Kaspersky installed.
You will have to uninstall the firewall before it works. I have an open case with Kaspersky since last year !
I use Windows 7 now with Kaspersky, it works...
Edit: The singleplayer issue can be caused if you have XFire or other Video recording software installed on Vista along with Kaspersky. A reinstall of both Kaspersky and Xfire should resolve this.
